hold the TEC in you hand and just hook it up for about 1-2 seconds, one side will get cold the when you unhook it it will get hot.

easier and safer way is to sandwich your pelt between 2 coldplates ,2 heatsinks or a combination .... it will give you a longet time to decide which is which and also prevent you burning out your peltier prematurely

yes yes man dont just turn it on...!!! it will cook itself to death! if u have any heatsink that will cover both sides put them on and also remeber where u hook up the wires cuz this will change the hot/cold side if u hook them up differently... so try to hook them up the same everytime u power it on:toast:

Hook it up to a 9V battery, red to +, black to -.

The battery can't source enough current to damage the TEC, so it is fine. Then just hold it in your hand, and you will be able to tell which side gets hot and cold. Label one side with a permanent marker so you remember.

That's my method, seems to work fine.
