Question to overclockers ... (54mm evap would fit ?)

Hi

I plan to use mine new 54mm diam steeper evaporator :) . And I got it ready to use, only the problem is I'm not 100% sure if it'll fit for ALL newest and older motherboards ?

Please look at this design, can You told if if it won't be making colision with any part of motherboards , like capacitors and simillar ?

Well that is the very same evap enclosure I have and it fits everything so far with out any problems.

Your Evap looks pretty big tho., it fits inside that enclosure with plenty of room for insulation, that foam stuff they use inside ?

never mind I see what your talking about.. the Evap is 54mm Dia.

Yes that would work as there is nothing in the area's around the socket it would hit. It's a bit large tho and will hang over the CPU it self.

That's how i thinked about doing the base, something like 5cm diam. for touching the cpu and the rest(that higher ''ring'') of the evap a litle higher to be no problems with caps around the soket area. I'm thinking of making a killer evap lice 7cm in diameter and verry tall too.

The problem is only on the sides of the soket area, usualy parallel with the memory slots, some mobo manufacturers are placing the caps wright next to the soket. A full base without that higher ''ring'' may work on 1366 because of larger cpu.

Yes, I put armaflex tape (adhesive tape) 3mm thick between evaporator sides and enclosure . Really that is not so much space , just bit more than one layer of 3mm thick tape fits there .

One more picutre, so You say that for sure it'll fit everywhere :) ?

I don’t think it’ll fitt on all boards…. I just measured on my Evga and its awfully close to some caps, the caps are like ~2 are 3mm higher than the socket/cpu IHS.
On Gigabyte for example, the caps are almost against the socket. Think you will have some problems with the metal ring/mount on those.

You could make the evap a bit longer, so you can place the mount(the plastic part incl the metal ring) a bit higher. Then there's always enough space :)
Are just make the plastic mount a bit smaller and the cut for the metal ring a bit higher…

Then we need a bigger difference between the 42mm and the 54mm part.
This difference adds up to the thikness of the evap base so some balance may be needed.

I measured on a Classified. It will fit cause the caps are 1mm higher than the socket/IHS. Peter says in his drawing that the bottom and the outside diameter of the evap have a 2mm difference, so it’ll fit on a classified.
Boards like Gigabyte can have some problems cause the have the caps against the socket, maybe it’l fit, but In that case the caps will freeze down to witch of course isn’t a problem :)
I don’t have a GB anymore so I can’t measure that…

Thanks for measuring Magoa!!:up: I was pretty sure it would fit on the Classy. Had my pal back home measure the Classy as well and he figures it will fit. Hope the new 4-way classy has the same layout around the socket. Still waiting for that new Gigabyte board, don't think its out in the wild yet.:shrug: So Pete, are you going to modify the evap a little or what you see is what you get?? :D

@Expat Griz : I think next evaps except this one which is brazed on photo I'll modify on lathe to have 3mm difference between 42mm diam and 54mm diam . I can't cut more because then it'll be too little material under seger ring :(.

This evaporator won't fit on Socket-A. Not sure if anyone's still benching them (I know I am) but still - just to let you know.
