I am running Windoes 7RC, Build 7100. My monitor is an HP w2007. All of a suddent today, the display on my screen refuses to fill the entire screen unless I put the resolution on the recommended resolution of 1680 X 1050. At that resolution, I have to set the DPI over 160% for the text to be big enough to read.
I had not made any hardware or software changes before this happened, and I was able to run the resolutuon at 1280 X 800 and have the entire screen filled. I tried uninstalling the graphics drivers and the Catalyst Control Center - made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas?
I've had something similar happen before, and it was a driver problem. Honestly about the only thing I can think of, unless its hardware.

What driver caused you the problem?

Except in Firefox everything is really, really large - while in Internet Explorer, all the Office applications, and everything else the fonts and type is small. Does this give any insight?

1680 X 1050 is the native resolution of that monitor, have you tried running it at that with Big Icons? I forget where it is on Windows 7 ( on an Xp desktop atm) under display settings methinks. Ctrl + plus or minus shrinks or enlarges the fonts in the browser. hope that helps :)

That helps - but doesn't answer why I suddenly have the problem.

Gremlins lol No one knows why strange things randomly occur in computers. Did you update the driver? did windows update do it automatically? The graphics drivers could be corrupted. What Graphics card do you have?

HD 4850. There were no updates (windows or otherwise) before this started. I tried uninstalling the graphics drivers and reinstalling them - didn't resolve it. I uninstalled the HP My Display software - didn't fix it. I reinstalled the HP software - that did nothing. I tried to do a system restore, but it was unable to do a restore - as near as I can tell NIS 2010 must be turned off first. I haven't tried that yet - I may try that tomorrow if nothing else works.
