8GB DDR1600 RAM
2tb HD
nvidia GTX295
Dual 28" LCD's 1080p

Nice rig but what's the point in going from a 4870x2 to a GTX295? Especially with the 5870 right around the corner.

How do you access the internals of the rig with those fans in front ?

I havent been keeping up with the latest video card news because the pc games have been :banana::banana::banana: lately.. and there havent been any good ones to get excited about.
I mainly changed to a nvidia card because my 52" tv was somehow not compatible with the 4870x2 which is weird because it worked on an ATI 3450 lol
So i took the best chance at getting my pc to work with my tv again. I thought it was my tv for almost a year but i just got it back from the warranty repair shop and it still doesnt work.
The gtx295 is so much faster with crysis warhead than my 4870x2 was. Its amazing.... all highest settings no lag 1920x1200
is there something im missing? is this not a nice upgrade?
i wasnt aware of the 5870 video cards until last night... but my guess is that it wont work on my tv anyways.. PLUS there arent many games out or coming out in the future to push this card to the max. If i need to.. i can always get (2) GTX295's and beat the 5870 or the 5870x2 right?
edit: i have a customer at my shop willing to pay me $2500 for my old PC.... should i? Its still in my sig. The case, watercooling and all the accessories was over $3200 last year.

I feel low grade I'm still on a 3870 :/ everyone is on 4,000 on up.
I'd like to go back to Nv but price is my problem now. I want a 2gbs card but $400 no thanks. $250 is a better so 4890 would be nicer.

No ones knows for sure how they perform, that I know of. I have seen some leaked numbers, but I wanna see known tester showing them. The 5870 is suppose to pack quite the punch. Plus have Dx11, which I think will be a nice addition to the gaming era. Games should be getting very nice looking plus perfom well.

no =[ replacement only
BUT... like i stated.. i dont think it would work with my tv anyways :( AND there arent any games to use the performance.
who knows... the 295 could outperform the 5870 maybe?

If all is correct, This is a slide showing the 5870 against the 285. If you know where the 295 sits then you can guess at the difference. The 5870 is supose to be around 299USD I think. So that is a nice boost at a much much lower price;)

It's probably your cpu, this CPU is at least 60% faster.
...
Upgrade on same CPU from 4870X2 to GTX925 is good, but not really life changing, again it's the CPU.
...
How would it not work on your TV? 1080p over HDMI and ATI cards have audio over HDMI also unlike their Nvidia counterparts. I'm also 90% sure the 5870x2 would beat the snot out of the GTX 295, especially two 5870x2's in Crossfire (which you can do on that mobo...)
...
No, you have a GD70, on an AMD chipset. You can't run SLi.

What results are you looking at? All I see is the 5870 beating the crap out of the GTX295... Seriously, I'd return the GTX295 or sell it for all it's worth and get a 5870. Two 5870's would be nearly twice :P the performance of the GTX295 you've got. Two 5870X2's would be about 3x faster.
The 5870 is also going to be $100 cheaper.

is the single 5870 going to be faster than the dual gpu gtx295?
I contacted newegg and they are offering me a return since ive spent over $100,000 in the last 3 years with them :) WooT!
When does this card come out? I have to email her next week to order a new card.

Wow Really... $100k in the last three years? Geez, I thought I was bad... ;)
I see what your looking at in those charts though, and actually the GTX295 seems to be holding it's own at the 1920x1200 res range...
The 5870 should definetly be cheaper, but AMD/ATI has been really quiet about the performance of the new cards so far, plus you need to keep in mind the fact that the drivers are still very imature...
Personally, I'd wait till next week when we get some hard numbers, the 5870 seems to have ALOT of potential, but right now it's all just speculation... :yepp:
Two things I find a little silly about what you've said:
1) The 5870 won't work with your TV.... I seriously doubt there would be any problem there!
2) If your willing to fork out ~$1200 for a 2x SLI GTX295 system, I seriously doubt a single 5870 could compete....
That being said, an $800 2x Crossfire 5870, could very well smoke it...
We don't have long to wait, and only time will tell...
Personally, I'm waiting for the 5770 around ~$150... :p:

$100,000?? You must work/own a company that requires some hardware!
I have been shopping at the egg for almost eight years, and I am fairly sure I havent even hit the $10,000 mark!

It shouldn't matter if it is faster then 2x 295's. It is gaonna cost less than half LOL. The fact that it will hold it own and even beat the 295 is enough to replace it with one. Add another and you will be set for a while.

1) Well the 4870x2 wouldnt work with my tv, i thought it was a problem with the tv. They replaced the whole mainboard on the tv and gave it back to me. It would NOT work on my 52" but it worked on my 28" and my 40" TV's. I used my dell laptop with a hd3450 and it works just fine on all of my TV's. Toshiba later acknowledged that some TV's just arent compatible with some video chipsets.
2) I never said i would :P im just asking what if's :) Plus i have the amd chipset so ati would be my only option.
The 295 is working GREAT for me but if i can return this and get somehting faster, i'll do it :)

Usually crossfire brings out problems. So your problem with the screen may lie with 4870x2. I wonder if you've sold your 4870x2. If you haven't, you can try uninstalling the drivers, disable 1 GPU, reinstall drivers, and try that screen again. Dunno if this will work though. Disabling 1 GPU while the drivers are still online, that, I'm not sure what will happen (I don't have an xfire setup).
5870 can do a 3x 24"(or 30" if you have the cash) setup though:up:
