i am convinced that the gd70 has bad bioses (or atleast have been getting worse clocking with each stability update), but i got the 4ghz final

getting from 3.965 to over 4 had to be the hardest 40mhz ever

edit- im on liquid, pa120.2, dtek v2, 355 with EK top

Those voltages are high , in any case it pretty good for 720 which usualy max out around 3.6. This just a validation or is it bench stable/24/7 stable ? whats you NB frequency ?

it was just for validation, and i think that that is just people who dont know what they are doing i got to 3.95 unlocked easy with an older bios and i would be that i could unlock and get a validation with the same settings. basically anything over 4ghz instantly crashed until i shoved allot of voltage on it, it was going at anything under 4ghz stable but to get above it crashes in about 30sec and its under 30c even with the voltages i was running.

so im assuming that the bios is broken, there is a clock hole, or its the strangest cpu that ive ever used

MSI and 13B6 is capable of 4.2g prime stable.....if the chip is capable.......

MSI and 13B6 is capable of 4.2g prime stable.....if the chip is capable.......

that was my point, i have to choose from being able to unlock or clock, im on 1.5b4 and thats the one that lets u unlock and not have to reset the cmos affter a power off. so im torn for benching since to do 3d i will need the 4 cores but it dosnt clock and i need 4 cores for 3dmark but then i will have lower clocks and bad IO so the gpu score will suffer.

i dont think that affter this i will be buying another msi for overclocking, and i think that i should have went with my gut and got the dfi

Zanzabar locked chips are locked for a reason.......I would blame the board less and blame the chip more.........It's more common than not to lose 100 mhz overall clock due to

1. More heat.......

2. a bum core which is why it was locked in the first place.

I run these chips unlocked on ln2 and they are EXTREMELY hard to work with versus there native 4 core brothers......

i guess but crapping out at exactly 4ghz is weird to me, im guna try 1.3b6 latter

My 720 craps out about the same point on air man. I think its due to a lower default clock/bin.

i am using an x3 720 with the same mobo and is also on water and i had no problems booting at 4ghz on win7 x86 but could only get 3996mhz on win7 x64. if i overclock through k10stat then 4.1ghz on win7 x64 is possible even 4.2ghz on win7 x86 but it is far from stable, maybe some pi 1m run but that's it. i don't think the gd70 had bad bioses, some of the early releases are not so good but not bad imo.

I have the same problem with my 955 and 965 3950mhz to 4000mhz vantage bench stable for houres but 4010 no even wont boot no matter what voltage gonna try the 1.3b6 tonight and check if it works both cous can run 3950mhz at 1.3875v no problem
