Anybody has ever thinked about this? i5 is attracting me, it costs less, consumes less, and goes the same, AND it will be upgradable for 1-2 years (?).

What do you think about this?

No reasons to do this at all.

No reasons to do this at all.

The reason is that if i change the mobo today i won't pay it ('cause my X58 mobo costs more), if i change the mobo next year i will pay

If I already had an i7 920 rig, I'd just hold on to it as gulftown is awesome.

change is good. Learning new things is better. I say go for it.

and so far I see it takes you more volts to get to 4.2-4.5 then 920

I would never sell on my i920 to get an i5 750 or i7 860, it seems like a pointless thing to do...

I've seen people upgrading but never downgrading although i'd get an i5 on the side but never replace the current i7 920 set up i have.

I just switched from a q9450 to a i7 860. If i already had a i7 920 i wouldn't have looked at the 1156.

Downgrade? No man
1366 has a long way to go. No need to go 1156.

if you have 920 with fpo/batch 38xxxxxx that run 4.5 @ 1.40000V (or below)

don't sell it

Just what I've been thinking about :)

I were like in Panic, New STUFF!! gotta have, yeah Im a bit like that, specially hardware :)

then i started thinking, how can i afford this, hmmm lets sell what i have, and this and that, then i MAYBE just have to add a bit...
JUST for the fun to try something else? yes its lovely and fun!

Then it just hit me, wtf? I got a 920, doin 4,3HT at 1.37v , Top end DFI board, mem at readspeed and write more than i will get if i switch.... so i just said to myself and slap! NO! :)
Its just for the playing! but is it worth it? OFC, would i have the money, i would buy it :) but FAAR from in need of it, Anyone who thinks they will NEED to get 860 over 920 are just "dumb" :)

Think i might just get away cheap with an SSD instead! or new RAM that can do ddr2000 :)

(but i really want that MFIII or EVGA:))

no point switching cpu for only lower power consumption. if you want something new and solid wait and buy new gpu from red team. 5870 is exciting...

One more vote against i7 860, they just arrived and we must wait for the "D0" analog for those CPU's. I'm pretty sure that they could be very good processors but not until the next rev., just like 9450, 920 etc.
I'm running a Asus R2G with i7 920 @ 4,2 on air and I'm very happy with it, just waiting for 5870.

EDIT: One more thing that I've missed, as far as I know you should also change the MOBO and lose the 3-chanel DDR. It's absolutely stupid to make such change. Stay with your 920, or get another one if you can't make 4,2 on air.

Keep with the 920, it's better than the 860, especially if you use multiple GPU's. Not to mention gulftown which looks to be pure awesomeness.
