I'd go with Gigabyte personally, seems to have less issues. Plus ASUS reliability and RMA have been dodgy recently...

I have the Asus R2E and the Gigavyte X58-Extreme.
Asus gave me less headache than gigabytes X58 board.

my vote for the gigabyte, working very stable for me :).
you might want to wait for the new x58A series if you decide to go for the gigabyte

Gigabyte gets my vote also, the UD5's are lovely mobos, and Gigabyte RMA's seem to be fine, or at least they are in the UK, I have heard a lot of people complaining about Asus RMA support, they are supposed to be really poor.

Asus has just released the P6TD Deluxe which is essentially the same as the V2 but has a revised NB.

I'm a little iffy about this also. The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte EP45 DS3P and it's the second motherboard I've owned. First one was DOA, this one just plain and simply s*cks and constantly crashes in sleep mode when overclocked and not even the latest BIOS fixes the issue.

I've owned one Asus board and it was a legend. I constantly here good things about Gigabyte but my own experience say they s*ck. But they are practically half the price of Asus boards.

Thank you on replies, i have decided to go with Asus, both boards are great but three great years with P5B deluxe helped me to make a choice. :)

I had same decision, i went with the gigabyte x58 Extreme. To be honest both are superb boards. Id go on personal preference as you have done due to them being such a close call :)

Enjoy your new board :)

@edc, I would imagine that you will definitely get a D0 stepping i920, there can't be much if any C0's around anymore I wouldn't have thought.

All the PC Hardware stores and e-tailers that I use all specify which stepping their chips are, I thought everywhere did this?

If you are buying it from a shop, then there is nothing stopping you from asking to see the S Spec of the chip, D0 will be SLBEJ.
