Hi all,

I decieded to build a new rig (upgrade really - kept the Mobo, PSU, HDDs and optical drives - bought new CPU, GPU and RAM) and water cool the cpu and gpu -

my idle temps of my stock (for now:)) q9650 are around 30c per core - and after 2hours prime 95 only go up to 38c! so theres plenty of room for overclocking!

i got my previous cpu - the e8500 - to 4.1Ghz on air - so im hoping for around 4.2Ghz from this q9650 on water!

anyway - if i lowered the multiplier to 8.5 and lowered the fsb strap (so my ram runs lower than its 1066mhz rated speed) i would be able to get a higher FSB - right? I'm hoping to get a 1900Mhz FSB with a 4Ghz+ cpu frequency!

this is achievable!

anyone done this - or got their q9650 to 4.2ghz?

thanks

depends on ya mobo mate, you are talking 1900Mhz FSb , assuming you are on 780i or such ?

im on a p5q deluxe p45 - ive seen these get 540mhz - so ill "only" need 8.5*500 to get my 4.25Ghz minimum -

i doubt you,ll get 500fsb with a Q9650 on that board,to run stable.maybe 480fsb

sorry - the 500+mhz fsb ive seen was not using this cpu - was a dual - but still - 4ghz should be easy - 4.2 is 9*470 about - so ill get there!

i upped the fsb to only 360mhz which is so small OC right - and it booted with cpu @ 3.24Ghz - so a nothing OC! anyway - when i restarted to up the fsb more - it would post - a dead bios it seemed!! i was gutted! this boards got "dual bios" chips so I held down "delete" key when i turned it on and it restored the corupted bios! - but still why did it do that at only 360mhz?? thats nothing! i want 475mhz!

Check your rams... 360Mhz with everything on AUTO doesn't lead to a corrupt bios, I've done 500FSB on these boards with quads and 600 with duallies... just be prepared to pump a lot of CPU VTT and improve NB cooling... and get good rams to get off the 1:1 divider so for 500FSB you need 1200mhz rams

ive decieded to go for a 475mhz fsb and run my 1066 ram on the divider below -
