its full of lies (or just one)

Services Services - Disabling Negative

Myth - "Disabling certain Services improves performance."

Reality - "Disabling certain Services actually reduces performance."

there are some that that is true but others that disabling will speed things up, i havnt used xp for a long time so i dont know the ones for xp off hand but in vista things like portable device enumeration, ICS, ip helper, media center extension services take up unneeded resources and slow things down

and the one on the page file, if u have alot of ram that u dont use and shrink or disable it, it will make things faster

i used to run tinyxp which is a stripped-to-the-bones xp and therefore very fast. but you couldn't even update because one service was missing :D
but i think this myth "guide" is right because disabling any unseeming service might render (future) software unusable. fallout 3 for example didn't run on tinyxp but does on a normal xp. it's just a very sensitive game but there are other things that might happen and have happened to me so that i by now only use xp with a standard config (except for the annoying optics) because tweaking it and having problems afterwards is just not worth the time. and since i'm only using it for gaming standard but working is ok for me.

i thought xp can't live without a pagefile on the system partition :shakes:
i think i'll test it and kill my install one more time :yepp:

i have 8 gigs of ram and my pagefile has been OFF and games load like the wind...nothing is messed because the file is off.4 gigs of ram is the safe area to shut it off,tho guys have with 2 gigs..:D

dont forget that if u have an old ssd (like a core v2) u have to remove the pagefile from the disk and i use a ramdrive it stops shudder. but im guessing that that artical isnt twords us and it would stop people from disabling things that need and causing tech support problems
