ok ive been doing some reading and it seems its a rather easy mod to do but its really hard to find cards with good memory chips,. i always thought that if you bought the ati retail pack youd get the top line samsung memory chips but i gues they too have gone to the cheaper memory chips making it not worth the mod.. i think im just going to buy the pro.. thx anyways guys...

Some of the newer ATI np's use infineon crap. My 9800np came with samsung 3.3 chips which actually o/c just as good as the 2.86's. 370+ unmodded so far and artifact free in any bench/game. There's some 9800np's on ebay that guarantee samsung chips and you can pick them up pretty cheap. Like $210-220ish, plus $40 shipping (stupid but it's still a damn cheap card).

yeah thats what ive been reading i gues it was just way too easy to mod these cards plus the money they could save on using the less quality chips. im just going to pick up a pro and not chance it. i could see if it was still the 100 or so we were saving by doing this 9800np thing but its only 50 bucks diff... for a all in one 9800pro i can get for 299 at compusa so i may as well just grab it before they sell out of them... well thx for your reply but after reading all day yesterday ive learned that i should of been doing this a few months ago when the memory was still good on the NP's....
