This picture is taken right after removing the cooler ( Prolimatech Megahalems, blowing in direction of the top), with AS5 applied flat over the CPU. I removed the cooler 3 times, and all looks pretty alike.

It seams to be a good contact right over the core, but there is a good deal of "poor contact" too?.
This CPU has been giving these max core-temp under prime-load on air(1800/1200RPM push/pull):
70'C @4.0GHZ(19x211) 1,15v
78'C @4.2GHZ(20x210) 1.24v
83'C @4.3GHZ(205x21) 1.80v

@4.4GHZ(210x21) seams to need 1.31v (maybe even more) but it is shooting over 85'C, and this is my personal heat-limit for 24/7 use. I have to shave a few degrees, but can lapping/sanding cut it?.

Do you guys think this CPU is so "uneven" that needs lapping/sanding at all?, and how many degrees can I count on getting out of it? Is this the way your w3520/ i7 920 look like?

Maybe .. but 4.4ghz on air is already HIGH for I7 ....

Lapping both HSF and CPU can help but....

You are right @4.4GHZ is on the edge for i7 on air, but thats what makes this thingy fun. :)

The HSF on Prolimatech Megahalems looks pretty flat and good to me, and several tests seams to report the same, but maybe those "bad contact" area are on the Cooler?

Oops I had an ugly typos in first post, w3250= w3520

Your temps looks quite fine. Done lapping plenty of times on Intel chips and was never worth it, and you also can't RMA after

Block contact on my i950 IHS was a little like yours, but striped vertical over the vertical core, and little wider band. I lapped it just to see, just cpu, my HK waterblock was pretty flat already. I got same idle and load temps afterwards. I did 2 mounts before, and one after. I posted my measurement/results in Realtemp thread here, pst 3686
