I have just installed my first vista ultimate downgrade for a customer at work and wanted to share my experience.
My contact at microsoft sent me the media pack needed to do the downgrade complete with instructions. The pack was just a xp pro sp3 disk with some information telling me what i can downgrade from but not how to activate.
After some searching all i could find was this (https://partner.microsoft.com/Malaysia/40042969).
Did a bit more searching and found some threads on microsoft site saying i need any valid xp code to do the install and then send the email listed in the link above. I had an answer from the email this morning saying i just need to call the microsoft activation number as normal and tell them the xp install id.
My first attempt at this didn't go to well and i had some ignorant twat telling me i need to use a 2nd pc and that i was not listening to him so i tried again and spoke to someone that had done this before and all they wanted was the install id from the xp code i used to install. After i completed the activation i asked don't you need anything from the vista code i have and she said no as long as it's stuck to the pc as normal it's ok.
I am still not happy with this i will have to keep a valid xp code just for vista downgrade and no doubt will run into problems later on when microsoft say that code has been used to activate to many computers and could cause my customers problems.
