my 8800gt card has 2 native DVI outputs. The SONY TV has a native VGA input for PC but also has 3 HMDI inputs.

Im assuming using my DVI-HDMI cable would be the best way to dual view my pc and TV.. HDMI>VGA right..??? the tv supports 1080..

i tried dvi-hdmi,, and a dvi/hdmi converter with an hdmi cable. both look grainy as heck!! Letters on webpages have uneven thickness and games look like they need alot more AA. Its like someone turned up the sharpness all the way on photoshop...not pretty..

the VGA looks great/smoother, but the color isnt has vivid.. i have to use a dvi to vga converter to connect the vga cable to the vid card..is the old school VGA really putting out 1080??

can someone explain why they look so completely different???

dvi to hdmi should give you good video, dvi just does not do sound, so I don't really see even a pure hdmi to hdmi connection giving you a better picture, VGA is analog so I am assuming hdmi to dvi would yeild better picture, does your tv have a pc mode? Have you played with the settings? How big is the tv? could it be taxing your card, running vga and doing it good probaly means low res, you should be able to see what your tv is receiving I can on my cheap vizio.

VGA is 640x480 resolution so you probably don't want to go with that.

DVI>HDMI cable is the one to go for, but i've no idea where your grainyness is coming from, check your tv menu options and NV control panel settings for correct resolution etc.

I tested it out a few more times..decided to stick with the VGA cable.it looks the best of the 3. i guess the TV is optimized for "pc mode" using a vga cable...

people often get confused with VGA the video standard and the VGA cable.. looks like a VGA cable is capable of carrying and outputting a 1080 signal..The DVI ports on video cards output an analog and digital signal which use different color gamuts..(aka dual link dvi) that explains the difference in color.. still cant figure out why the digital signal looks soo grainy and overly processed.

the VGA standard is the 640x480 resolution. I know forsure a VGA cable is capable of higher res than that.. my old 17" crt using a VGA cable no problems displaying 12xx by 10xx..Much better refresh also.

Its a 46" Sony Bravia. KDL-46XBR2...

I am using a Sony Bravia XBR6. Only one of the HDMI jacks on the monitor is PC, on mine it is HDMI 4. I used a DVI to HDMI cable and the pic is great.

At first the colors were bad but after spending a bit more on better cables the color is fine and text is clear.

looks like the newer braviaa have HDMI native pc input. yours doesnt have a VGA input at all right? older models like mine use vga as the native input for PC.

It has a vga connection also. I used it and it gives good resolution.

I found that with a better dvi - hdmi cable I got clearer text and truer colors than with cheaper cables I had around.

he means d-sub15 not vga, or atleast i would assume since he has a sony TV and real vga hasnt existed for years if not a decade+

dvi or hdmi will do the job, dvi will be better with the 8800gt since ut wont have to convert anything and u cant send sound

I have DVI>HDMI to a Samsung 55 inch A950 series. Picture is incredible. Sound is out via digital coax to the receiver.

Given the fact that the DVI>HDMI cable is transmitting digital information, there really shouldn't be any noticable difference regarding a "higher quality" more expensive cable as long as it is transmitting the data, except that your wallet will be lighter. Monoprice sells very reasonably priced good quality cables. Perhaps you may want to check out AVS forums. This issue is asked about from time to time there and the myths and facts have been well explained.

I went thru this with Sony support as the text was not acceptable and the colors were not right, for example this web site was pink.

I had two different cables here and both were giving the same problems so I would not accept supports advice to buy another. A bud loaned me one of his cables and problem gone. I went to the local AV supply, lightened my wallet a bits and have no complaints to date... wanna buy some hardly used cables ?

all my cables are monoprice cables..and yeah..d-sub15 cables is what i meant.

picture is looking fine with the d-sub...really is no reason for me to try to force dvi to work..thanks guys

Make sure your res is set right otherwise it will look horribly crappy.
