I use Foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org/) mainly because I can play FLAC files with it. I would use VLC but I like the foobar interface. What do you guys use, and what kinds of files do you play with it?

Only VLC! Sometimes Media Player Classic, because you can sharpen the video with FFDSHOW.

After going through several players, I've settled on Zoom Player (and sometimes MPC). VLC doesn't look too good with 1080p video, and WMP is annoying.

VLC for all video.

MediaMonkey for all audio.

Both are best in class.

I used to be a Winamp user, as long as I can remember. A month ago I switched to MediaMonkey, no comparison.

Media Player Plassic HC for video, evaluating Songbird for audio. Tried Foobar, didn't like, lacks critical features.
VLC would be fine for video - if it didn't crash all the time.

But Winamp has by far the best UI ever.

VLC and WMP for audio and video w/ CCCP.
WMP only because VLC doesn't work with my G15.
VLC because WMP has issues with some file types.

I have tried every program here but I had some sort of complaint about all of them so I just distilled it down to the ones I needed. MediaMonkey is great though :up:

media player classic home cinema is the best for videos, you can configure it to use whatever filters you want, and it is fully multithreaded for video and offers hardware acceleration for vc1 and mpeg4avc. also, there is a 64bit version.

KMPlayer only for video, I haven't encountered anything better.
The best image quality, tons of settings, great performance, free, it's a small app, doesn't require additional codecs.

Foobar = music (minimalistic + 5.1 filters).
Winamp = radio channels.
MPC HC = hd/dvd/videos (gpu accelerated/shaders/) i.c.w ac3filter (ac3/dts).
VLC = general player, to see if something is working or when they above can't play it.

I'll say it again, I love VLC and here's why.

http://www.vlcplayerdownload.com/

LC Player is a cross platform open source portable multimedia player for several audio and video formats as well as VCDs and DVDs and various streaming protocols. VLC Media Player can play the following formats. MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg and many more.The software can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

There have been 1,726,393 downloads of this 1.0.1 version.

This download is 29 MB

Certified - No Spyware or Adware
Please link to this website in blogs, forums and websites.

PowerDVD plays DVD Audio, DTS Audio Discs (I have 4), and the Creative Media Player can make Multi-Channel (5.1) Analog recordings (saved as large WAVE, then compressed) of them in real time via ASIO. Fast 3 clicks to do it as well, nothing complex at all LOL!

Tons of neat little apps for this stuff!

There's another one I've only been playing with for about a month its called Songbird:up:. MaxPC loves it so I thought why not give it a try, I installed it, tried it for a few days and almost forgot about it. Then around the middle of Nov, I tried it again. Been using it about 60% of the time now.

http://www.getsongbird.com/

We're working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music. There are lots of ways to contribute your time to the project. We'd love your help!

The player is really no big deal but the way other apps interact with it is pretty sweet. I was already using LastFM.com, EAC (edit: Exact Audio Copy) and others. I could have posted it earlier but I hadn't tested it long enough. I have to give newer apps at least a 5 week test run. I have it installed only on Win Vista Ult 64bit. Will give it a shot in Windows 7 Ult 64bit later this week.

Please also note that there are free skins and apps for Windows Media Player. http://customize.org/wmp/skins/34897

Lately WinAMP has been buggy for me and holes for tracking and virus'. I was a long time WinAMP user and I still have Hundred's of tested Skins before I gave up.:(

Looks pretty neat, I'll give it a try on my laptop. I'm stuck with iTunes on my main rig because of my iPhone though.

I've looked at a couple of iTunes substitutes as well. I have iTunes installed and use it only for my iPhone and nothing much else. Songbird should be able to manage most of the music files, not sure about movies though.

Here's something for you to check out.:up: I'll check this one out later this week myself.
