ordered the intel boundle, which is a P4 3.0 a intel D865GBF
Motherboard (http://intel.com/design/motherbd/bf/index.htm?iid=ipp_desk+boards_d865gbf&) , and windows xp. I also ordered one gig of mushkin 3200 DDR matched pair memory, (2 x 512mb), with 2-2-2-5 timming. and a ati 9800 XT video card.
When it all came i put it all together. when it booted and i went into the bois it saw the memory as 2-2-2-6, it was all i could get the system to boot with so i left it.
When i try to install windows XP pro it either freezes, blue screens, or reboots.
I did manage to install windows 2000 pro, however, it did funky stuff, random reboots, and when i was installing the service pack, it would only install fast if i moved my mouse around.
so i tryed to reinstall windows xp again with more blue screens.
Any ideas?
Does my motherboard just not support my memory?
Or is my memory bad?
If it's my board let me know and i will order a good one, let me know what one you know would work with my ram.
Help me out all
Thanks

Have you tried taking the cmos battery out of the mobo? That will clear cmos, then go into the bios and set default or fail safe defaults. Also check the manual and see if a jumper is required to be set on the mobo. i have a funny feeling there's either a jumper or a setting in bios that's screwin up the whole shebang.
Take all the periphials out ie: ram, vid card ect. then reseat them too.

Hmmm, have you tried the bare essentials? Try the process of elimination. Try 1 stick of ram only. Another thing, are you using the thermal pad that came with the retail heatsink? Make sure the hsf is seated properly.

ok,tryed one stick, booted it at 2.5-3-3-6
going to try to load windows. why would it boot with those timmings with one stick and not two? does that mean one stick is bad?

Yeah, prolly the stick is doa. I would mark the bad stick with a piece of tape and then swap out the good stick. Check it to make sure. Might need to rma it. Glad it's up and running tho. Keep us posted!

it's still locking up when i try to load windows. Maybe one stick just works better with lower volt?
i tryed 2.5-3-3-6 2.5-3-3-7 2.5-3-3-8 2.5-4-4-6 2.5-4-4-7 2.5-4-4-8
if i change the 2.5 to anything else it wont boot.
or you think they both bad? got me

Yep. looks like your ram is fuxed from the start. See if you can rma it and swap it for a different brand.
hatemi his ram won't even run stock speeds. That ram is toast. They must've sent him bad ram from the house.

I agree, my BH5 needs more than the rated voltage to run its rated timings. It is rated for 2.6v but I have to set 2.75v. I would increase it and try again.

Mushkin will work but you gotta jack the voltage up. Give it all the board has got!

Sounds like rma time to me. I would'nt give up on the Mushkin. I have had good results with the LII stuff and alot of volts.

If you are sticking with the Asus just go to their site and download the pdf that shows what ram they tested on the board. Then make your decision....fairly simple.

I know i've said this before but raising the timming to get high fsb is just going in circles. You may even loose performance by doing so.
