Hi Guys,

i need your help, heres my Config

CPU = Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz (8x333FSB)
M/B = ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS (Bios v0411)
RAM = 2x2GB Transend DDR2-800 FSB JetRam (7T)
CPU Cooler = CoolMaster Gemini S
GPU = Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512MB
HDD = Western Digital 250 GB & 160 GB (Sata)
DVD = Samsung Writemaster (IDE)
PSU = Zebronic Platinum 600W

First

When i increase CPU fsb more than 410 and reboot my HDDs wont detect it works fine below 410. i tried increasing Voltage of NB, SB, Vcore, RAM still nnot working.

Second

is it Safe to exceed the rated FSB of a RAM thats i my case its 800 FSB to 912 FSB because i have to options for memory divider

1) DDR2-800 (5:6 as in CPU-z)
2) DDR2-667 (1:1 as in CPU-z)

so using 5:6 ratio & all stock voltages its stable at 380 FSB (3.04Ghz) for 6 Hrs
DRAM Final Clockrate = (2 x FSB)/Divider
i.e DRAM Final Clockrate = (2 x 380)/(5/6) = 912 DRAM FSB

PCMark05
CPU Score = 9787
Memory = 6602
Graphics = 6622
HDD = 5177

And using 1:1 ratio & all stock voltages its stable at 400 FSB (3.2Ghz) for 6 Hrs
DRAM Final Clockrate = (2 x FSB)/Divider
i.e DRAM Final Clockrate = (2 x 400)/(1/1) = 800 DRAM FSB

PCMark05
CPU Score = 10249
Memory = 6710
Graphics = 7313
HDD = 4868

i was thinking of using 5:6 because ratio in better

Third

i have added a on/off switch in the 12v Yellow wire connecting extra cabinet fans to use it only when using the overclocked setting
it prevents unnecessary dust inside the cabinet.
problem is when switch it ON and start the PC everything starts except those extra fans i have to restart the PC once or Twice with Switch on to start it.
will this damage my PSU.

This is motherboard Manuel (http://rapidshare.com/files/268164384/P5KPL_AM_PS.rar.html)if u need to see my bios options

Then thats all you can probably get. I wouldn't try to push it any further, unless you want to take a chance at damaging a component or corrupting system files..

Yes, DDR2 memory is typically fairly overclockable. Just don't push the voltage too high. I wouldn't go past 2.15v, but you shouldn't have to use that much just to 912mhz.....unless it's really crappy memory.

It shouldn't damge your PSU at all.. Maybe something is wrong with the way you configured the switch though, as it doesn't seem to be sending power to the fans..

Hi Carfax,

First of all thanks for repling so fast.

Sorry for being so late to reply.

Well only the Sata HDDs are not detected the IDE DVD Writer and everything else is working well. it looks like increasing FSB is affecting Sata controller, is there way to fixing its value to someting like its for PCI-Express to 100Mhz.

DDR2 is at stock voltage (1.8500) for 912 FSB.
and how much would i have to increase it to reach 960 FSB
it also can increases by 0.00625 (1.85625) till 2.24375

Well the SATA controller is located on the southbridge, so maybe if you increase the voltage on the southbridge (if your mobo has that option) it might fix the problem.

There really is no set voltage for a particular FSB, as it really depends on the quality of the memory, the chipset and the motherboard.

That said, the best way to go about doing this, is just to set the desired FSB or divider, and then see if it will boot using default settings (most likely it won't but you never know). If it does boot, then run Prime95 and see if it's stable.

If it doesn't boot, or if it isn't stable when running Prime95, then increase the voltage by small amounts until it boots and you have good stability.

For the P35 chipset, I wouldn't go pass 1.5v for day to day use..

If it won't boot or be stable no matter how much voltage you throw at it, it wasn't meant to be..

This happened to me on my old ASUS P5LD2-SE with an E6400, it lost the SATA drives over a certain FSB and at the time I didn't know what to do about it as I was fairly new to OC'ing.

It is almost certainly the Southbridge bugging out, I cannot remember my board having an option for Southbridge voltage so what I did at the time was buy a cheap PCI SATA card and worked around the problem. Terrible solution to be honest but IIRC it got me from 2.7 to 3Ghz which at the time seemed a decent trade off.

your stuck at 400mhz for OC

hi guys,

Thanks for helping me out here.

As u guys say i have two options change my motherboard to P35 or add a pci sata card
but data transfer speed of a pci sata is 1.5 Gbps & the onboard is i think 3 Gbps wont that affect my overall system performance

and i am using bios v0411 (which was already on the bord when got it) but asus website shows the latest bios version is 0406 so does that mean 0411 has a bug or any problem in it.
if i want to downgrade my bios to 0406 will it allow me to do data (wont that give me an error saying advance version is already installed).

Thanks

Shailesh

Hi,

well i tryed downgrading my bios from 0411 to 0406 using Asus Update . But it gave me error saying "Warnning The BIOS cannot use in this motherboard (The EEPROM Type incompatible)" as in the image Here (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/4729/asusupdateerror.jpg)

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/4729/asusupdateerror.jpg

is it safe to do this using AFUDOS Engineering Version 2.36

please reply.

Shailesh.
