View Full Version : Will Win 7 upgrade do clean install like vista?
So, Will Win 7 upgrade do clean install like vista upgrade by just not entering the serial first time around and then installing again like the workaround for vista without having to have a previous OS?

I'd say your question is very gray area, what you're doing is in essence piracy in as much as faking having a legal license from which to upgrade. I don't think this thread is allowed?

even if u had a good old copy to make vista work correctly u had to do that with the upgrade.
a better idea is to buy all OEM/OEI there is no downside other than OEM u cant sell the OS license to some1 with a computer and they are priced the same as upgrades are
OT-
i dont think that there is a win7 update out yet so im not sure if it would work, but im guessing it will since it will install without a key like vista dose

Well I have an xp license and I still do the clean install with vista upgrade. I have, in fact 6 different licensed OS's so Im not trying to steal anything, I just would rather install win 7 upgrade twice like Vista rather than install XP or vista first and then upgrade it. But thanks for trying to be a mod anyways.

Windows 7 upgrade edition discs will require that there be an _ACTIVATED_ copy of Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or 7 RC (build 7100). In other words, Windows must already be on your system and activated before you can use your upgrade disc to upgrade. You can do the assisted (Windows helps you back up your stuff before doing a clean install, A custom install (clean install), or in-place upgrade (if a matching Vista version is there) which allows you to keep all your settings. Sooooo, no you can't do that MsB. You will have to have the previous licensed and activated OS installed first before the upgrade will allow you to go forward. If you want around that restriction, you will need to buy the full retail edition instead of the upgrade. Good luck to you come October 22nd. If you are anxious to get the final version of Windows 7 before the October 22nd release date, you can always sign up for MSDN or TechNet Plus (it was released to them on the 6th, see here: http://tinyurl.com/mpgp4h ).
