my buddy has a p4 2.0 laptop:it blows out normally hot air from the vents, all these new cooling toys you place your laptop on with 30 to 40 cfms,he thinks they are not woth it not about the money even though 25 to 45 bucks,he thinks the cooling wont do anything for it.
he does not have a temp probe installed at all.
can anyone please advise me so i can show him the thread about what he might expect form a cooling system working under his laptop...thanks

I don't recall seeing anything specifically covering this topic. But its proven fact that cooler electronics=longer life, efficiency of any particular Laptop cooler is another story. Cool that laptop as much as possible, longer life would be the least reward....

i think manufacturers made serious development of cooling and additional cooling is not necessary. I will not use a notebook for more, let's say 3-5years. The improvement you could do is to increase it's life span from 10 to 20 years but I will never reach that.. I think additional cooling is only necessary when working in extreme conditions.

I would disagree, stick a temp probe inside that tiny plastic box, you'll be surprised, only thing manufacturers have acomplished is making components work better under xtreme conditions.. I don't think its worth hauling around additional cooling while traveling but when its convenient some additional isn't a bad thing...
If its a Sager it has plenty of cooling, If its a DELL then obviously try to get some better cooling.
We have thrads on watercooled laptops, old threads, also a threada bout a guy getting blisters on his genitals from having a hot laptop on his lap
I jsut cant find them but im sure they are in "Computer realted Open Discussion" http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=31
