epox 4pca3+ rev2 is well spoken of. I'm thinking of buying this board. vdimm 3.2, 1.85 vcore, 2.2 agp volts, so don't really need any modding.
$131.00

I wouldn't, that board has memory incompatibilities/divider problems more than the other boards.
I vote for the Epox.

You speaking from experience? I have no problems at all with mine, runs Corsair 3500 BH5, OCZ 2700,3200, 3700, KHX 3000, 3500, Samsung 2700, Mushkin 2100, Geil 2100, 3500, all with no peroblems..... I also have no problems running 1:1 up to 260 (maxxed mem on default volts), 5:4,3:2 @300. All using bios 17 and a 2.4c
Now considering thats pretty representitive of typical memory, and reasonably good performance AGAIN, i say IS7 IS decent board for the $$$ Now if you have some FIRST HAND experience with the board, I'd love to hear it...

I don't need first hand experience. That's great that you got a good one, but not everyone does.

and on the other side of the coin, not everyone gets a bad one. You say I'm wrong and have never even owned the board... I've personally built 22 computers using the IS7 with no issues at all. No dead boards, no problems with any memory, latest bios solved all divider issues, and for 80 or so bones, a GOOD VALUE...

When did I say you were wrong? I never did, I just recommended something else.

You specifically quoted and contradicted me, had you you JUST recommended the Epox without implying I was wrong I wouldn't have posted further replies. No problems here, as everyone is entitled to an opinion, just when an opinion IS stated as FACT, its sometimes difficult to discern fact from opinion. And seeing you have no experience with the IS7, and are only going by what you've read,or heard, it IS just opinion.
IE:
stated as Opinion: From what I've read most people find that board to have many issues.
stated as Fact: that board has memory incompatibilities/divider problems more than the other boards.

am i correct in assuming that the newer 2.8C steppings will overclock fairly well on stock cooling?
-as in ....will a 2.8C overclock higher than a 2.6C using a sp-94?
(i will not be using higher than 1.625volts on the processor regardless of cooling.)
-on a sidenote.....i have used the IS7 personally when building a system for a customer. the system would not run PAT regardless of the memory timings and clockspeed. the memory could run 235fsb 1:1...but not run PAT at 200fsb 1:1 . the temp probe also read 60C even at stock voltage even after reseating the heatsink several times and unvolting it. abit forums confirmed my suspicion the probe was off by 15C-20C.
have any of these issues been addressed in the latest bios releases?
the big question here is....what are the chances of running 3.3ghz on stock heatsink? if its difficult then i'll just go with the abit and sp-94.
