So folks, I need some help. I'm thinking of upgrating my PC to i7 - just got an offer for i7 920 C0/C1 for about 160€. That's really cheap here in Slovenia.

The question: what is the BEST motherboard for a low price, and able to take my 920 to 4GHz @ low/normal voltages? I was thinkin' of ASUS Rampage II Gene... the Extreme version is simply too expensive.

Also, though I want to buy a D0, I want to ask, how much is the heat/voltage difference between C1 and D0 (in percentage)?

Thnx :)

Gigabyte UD5, or UD4 are killer boards with very mature bios support. On the lower end tip the eVGA SLI LE board is capable of taking your cpu wherever it can go. Voltages are zero board dependent...it's all cpu this round. Only 3 major voltages need to be adjusted. DRAM, vcore and CPU/QPI VTT (some manufacturers call it one, some the other).

Heat wise, the C0 was better. I owned a pretty stellar C0 when I first got into the i7's and it would eat more volts without producing too much heat overhead. I find the D0 is more sensitive to vcore and CPU/VTT and overclocks higher, but since it's actually using the volts, rather than leaking them like C0, the D0 does transfer more heat. Another plus for the D0 I found was better memory controller. I can run my ram at higher speeds and tighter timings that I could with the C0 so that's a plus.
