The usage is for a music server, not to reproduce video, so the onboard video is needed only to power the lcd touschreen (dvi).
The sound will be provided by a modded Essence ST, and an audiophile firewire dac later. The pc will be very low noise (2 undervolted nexus 12cm fans and nothing else). OS will be W7 RTM.
*important: SLEEP mode MUST WORK, as the pc will be on all the time.
The perfect mainboard for my needs does not exist, but the ones that come closer are the two in the subject. Here's a list of pros and cons.
I need some help to decide.
giga g45:
+undervolt of E5300
+ctrl firewire TI (the only good chip for a firewire dac)
+uscita dvi (for my touchscreen display)
+works fine with Windows7
+2 slots pci
-only 1 ps/2 port (i prefer to use it for both keyboard and mouse, the less usb ports connected the better the sound)
-5 sataports (20/30€ for additional ctrl, or i go the NAS route sooner)
asus g35:
+2 ps2 ports
+6 sata ports
+lower price (found used)
-Does NOT undervolt my E5300
-Unusable firewire controller for my purposes (needed to shell 50€ for a TI controller)
In the end costs are roughly equal. It is NOT a matter or cost, but of stability, and this gigabyte seems to be more stable.
Suggestions? Opinions on the two mobos are welcome, do not suggest me other models thanks.
There would be a third candidate, the DFI-ACP BL-330BR (industrial model), but there the price is much higher (200€).
