I will be using a Q9650 with a matrix raid, GTX+ 9800, and 4 GB DDR2. What motherboard will have the best speeds and temps?

Third for Gigabyte EP45 UD3P.

I <3 Q9650 @ over 500 FSB 24/7 stable easily.

everybody knows the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R/UD3P motherboards are guaranteed to get you to 500MHz FSB on quads AND get you laid no less than three times.

Depends on the budget, theres lots of decent boards to choose from. Once we know your budget, we can recommend bouards in that range

+1 Asus Rampage Extreme with DDR3 for that processor..... I got a q9550 in one and it smokes everything I throw at it.

Can the Gigabyte run a 9550 @ 4.5ghz (8.5x529) 24/7 linpack stable with 1.4 vcore? Assuming it's a good cpu and mem? I am familiar with max settings for 9650 and RE, but not 9550 and giga.

If not 4.5ghz, what is max freq for that 9550 24/7 config?

It's def true that giga board will take the quads higher FSB. I took the Q9650 to the max on RE with LN and it didn't get close to the Giga scores. If I had used giga board in that session I would have easily taken all of the top scores for Q9650.

Actually the best 775 motherboard ever made was/is the abit IP35 PRO but ABIT is no longer in business so that is neither here nor there.
I can't speak for the GIG versions because I haven't tried one only heard, but they seem to be pretty good.
I can speak (to a degree) about ASUS as far as the P5Q series goes. I had a P5QE for abit and sold it. Wishing I hadn't, I found a deal and bought a P5Q Deluxe.
P5Q Deluxe is an excellent board for overclocking Quads. It's god some solid power management.
Just make sure that you have a solid and stable power supply backing you up. That's they key to everything.
All you need is a DDR2 board with that CPU. Just GOOGLE the stats. DDR3 is a total waste of money when it comes to using it on what are actually just glorified DDR2 boards anyway.
Grab a couple of sticks of Esoteria, Dominator, or just about any top quality DDR2 and that sucker will fly.
Anyway.
I'd say ASUS was a safe bet.

Any Gigabyte P45 board will be best, especially the UD3 series.

Nah, after reading this thread im thinking of selling my RF and buying a UD3P instead.
The P45 Crossfire "limit" doesnt bother me at all.

looks are subjective, performance here is objective, I haven't tried the new Maximus Gene II, but performance wise with a quad, it's pretty hard to beat the Giga board. If you don't have a sidepanel who cares ? Plus I can run a lower PL on the UD3P than with the P5Q Dlx. The latter was easier to setup as I'm used to Asus Board's biosses... but overall the UD3P nicely surprised me

Uh, its my monitor what im watching all the time not the bloody inside of my case.
Even if you look in my case the view is blocked by a lot of things like the CPU HS and my videocard, i realy dont see the problem over here.

BTW is the GA-EP45-DS4 also a good option?
It roughly the same price as the UD3P but does it OC just as good?

kagula323
07-19-2009, 07:30 AM
UD3P overclock's better
DS4 doesn't have loadline calibration option in bios + it's hasn't the 2oz pcb (this means higher temps on the mobo during work) So P45-DS4 not a good option
just stick to UD3P/UD3R :D

EP45-UD3P/UD3R is the only board you should even
think about if you want to get the most out of a Q9650.
hands down, all other ddr2 boards cant even compare to
how well this board does with the Q9650.if you want to
hit 500FSB and higher there is no other choice.just get it
just read the Q9650 thread and see how many people with
other boards struggle to get high fsb,and then look at all
the best OC's,all done on the UD3P/R's.

Thanks a lot guys for the info, yet another question.
Is it really worth it to sell my RF for this board? My goal is 4GHz, dont need more TBH.
I aint planning to sell my X3360 (C1), if i start with buying new LGA775 stuff im just better of swithing towards i7 if you ask me.

Leeghoofd
07-20-2009, 07:25 AM
Give ya RF a chance and see if it can hold 450FSB, clock for clock it will be faster than P45 if you can get the mobo to dial in... If ya only after 4ghz the RF is still worth a shot.

Sorry for the late reply guys and thanks for your replies.
I decided to just stick with my RF, ill try to improve cooling when im rebuilding my PC in a new case and then just push a few volts more trough it.
If thats not gonna be succesfull ill replace the board with a UD3P, im not really interested in upgrading the cpu towards a Q9650 due the cost.
