Ive had a lot of problems with SATA since it was released. The fact is the connectors suck, although newer ones are better they can still have problems.

I wouldnt usually care too much but recently Ive lost two windows installs and a lot of lost work + wasted effort due to crashes.

I expect we would be better off using standard IDC connectors the same as old ATA cables, but 7 pin instead of 40. It does really annoy me that these POS connectors cost £5 each and more when the standard was new.

Recently I have had BSOD crashes several times a day, but its now fixed.

The design sucks becuase:
1) The pins have a bump near the end, its too near the edge and too small, does not match the width of slot minus connector width.

2) the slot in the connector is too big, allows too much wobble. Someone can fart other side of room and it will fall off.

3) On the inside opposide the pins, in the middle there is a bump designed to push the against the pins, but its wrong and useless.

These allow the connector to tilt, this makes 1) completely pointless, and ruins connection.

The newer connectors with metal clip, they only prevent wobble but the pins are the same and can still have bad *angled* connection.

So the way to fix this, firstly cut away the plastic bump from the inside of the connector so its flat. Then cut a thin peice of card about an inch long and wide as the slot, put it inside + fold over, so it sticks out from the top of the connector.

Sata is then fixed. Ive had no sata/disk related crashes since.

It takes effort for me to pull out my SATA connectors. I've never had one come out of my motherboard, even though the way I have the cables routed to the "slot" should have pulled them out if it is as bad as you describe. Only one of them has the metal clip.

I'm confused.

I have not experienced said problems... The design could be more secure, but as it is, I've never had the cables fall off, or have data corrupted because it was loose.

I've never had a problem with sata connections. Are you sure you're pushing them in firmly enough?

I've broken a few sata data connectors and the power are not that clever +1 for the old school ide cables and don't start me off on HDMI....lol

Damn my only problem is disconnecting the suckers when they're in a tight place,
never have they been loose or have I had a problem with them though.

The plastic part of the sata connector on my raptor drive broke about 6 months ago, im pretty sure it was a manufacture defect tho, but I superglued it back and have broken it again several times when changing stuff out/moving into new cases, but it still works. Thats the only problem that I've had with them, but overall I hate the connectors and think that they are fairly fragile.

I have had SATA ports on my drive lose some plastic (right before the metal contact thank god). SATA isnt the most hearty connection. I have more issue with HDMI, I cant stand the connection on HDMI, especially when using thick cables. Before I get bashed I got Monoprice's thick (and cheap) cables.
