As the title suggests, I'd like to know if the 8850 is unlocked or not:p: I don't really know, as I've seen different information. Maybe there are two versions out there (like 7750), I don't know. The PN of my chip is HD8850WCJ3BGH FYI.

No, I can't test it as it's not in my hands atm (the PN was sent to me by my mate who got it today).

I'm not sure, but here is a quote from xreview.com

Looks promising, I really hope it's unlocked:p:

...on the other hand, the 8750 BE has the PN HD875ZWCJ3BGH - notice the "Z" there, after 875. Same for the 7750 BE, there's a "Z" there as well. And the non-BE edition has a "0" in that position.:(

Why not get Phenom II x3 / Athlon II x3?

Why choose when you can have both:p: I've got a 920 and a 940, too. Still got no board, though:( Neither my NF590 nor my M2R like my K10 chips:p:

Because I like to have some rarities - and to have alot of CPUs in general (I THINK I'm close to 300 K8's now, and 10 K10 as well). I will definately buy 45nm tricores in the future (actuall I wanted to buy a 700e last night, but I forgot and then the auction ended...), but I prefer to jump on cheaper deals than expensive ones - IMO you can have just as much fun with a $50 chip as with one that costs 3-4 times that.
