Hi guys, I have a very specific need for a mobo for unlocking 550

it has to have:

a) unlockable, the 740 or w/e SB that does it with AAC
b) IGP (any will do, as long as it allows the screen to turn on, DVI or VGA)
c) DDR3 (using hand me down from i7 system)
d) relatively cheap (140 CAD max pre tax pre shipping)
e) be available in canada (the hard part, the ASrock one I liked with all the req is only available here by newegg.ca, which puts a HUGE premium due to they offload the import process to you, rather than a warehouse in canada)

Also, would be nice to know anywhere in Toronto has nice batches of the X2s, I know canadacomputer has some 0919EPMW which is nice, but I would love to know where can I find 0922APMW.

Also, anyone know where the heck can I get a s939 to AM3 adapter for thermalright SI-120? seems there was one avaiable when AM2 came out, not sure if it fits or if I can get one up here

AM2 and AM3 should be the same mechanism.AM2+is same as AM2.

Ok now the task of finding it, and apparently there were multiple revs and only the final one is good for SI-120...

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128392 is the best i can find. no onboard video though :( but its cheap enough so you could add a cheap video card and stay under budget

Hmm the SI-120 salvage is not going well, the damned adapter seems to be out of stock everywhere.... the s939 is truely too old, original plan was for a s939 x2 and that failed...

So question is, does the stock HSF work well cooling the thing down from a higher TDP from the unlocking and little Ocing? Also, I do have an intel I7 stock cooler (they are rated for 130W I7s) and the other alternative is to some how modified the 4 locking pins to be compatible with the AMD setup (yes, this is the frankenmachine from hell), and I'm willing to do some work on it as long as its possible (would be nice if someone else had done it and have some experience in doing so), it dosen't have to be reversible since the I7 has a TRUE on it now.

Also, is that mobo proven to be able to unlock or is that just a similar chipset/family of mobos that can?

Standard heatsink was awful for me. I installed an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro, though and temps were down 10-20 degress and I can run it unlocked at 3.6 GHz with the same temps as the stock heatsink at default settings. I love this little processor. Overclocking really has improved my game performance a lot.

alright guess its either no go with this or else find adapter, or make the weirdest frankenmachine I've yet to attempt....
