I have a P4 2.4 SL6Z3, and it needs high vcore to run at 3.6ghz... will the cpu go to h*** if I give it 1.8v over a long period?
how high vcore is "safe"?

Cooling: MCX 4000 with Enermax Fan.

anything over 1.6 is pushing it with anything but extreme cooling aka Phase change or TEC.

don't exceed 1.7volt, at 1.8volt you'll certainly kill it in the long run

You gotta Pay to play!!!!!

up to you if the extra 100-200mhz is worth it.

I've had a 1.6a running watercooled @ 2.8 running for over 18months @ 1.82V 24/7, in the basement no monitor.
My original P4 northwood. Been running F@H for a year of that time.

But I've seen people say volts have killed their chip.

It cost $$ to have fun!!!! How much fun you wanna have is up to you.

Vcore above 1.7v on air is just asking for it. http://www.techhelpers.net/e4u/comp/comp06.gif

I still dont get how i can slam 2.2+ volts to an AMD XP and not hurt it.l

Tedinde is correct, you need to decide how much the extra speed is worth to you. A quick Google for Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome (SNDS) (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=northwood+sudden+death+syndrome&btnG=Google+Search) will give you some reading material regarding safe voltages. I don't believe there has been many reports regarding SNDS and the P4C, bottom line is if you can't afford to lose your processor then best to keep voltage no greater then 1.7, which most seem to agree is safe with adequate cooling....

heh i always run my P4's at around 1.75v (usually 1.725v) on air, haven't lost one ever :sofa:

Id give my chip more volts to get the MHZ i want. the 3.2 i have now. anything above 1.65 doesnt do anything for it. And i've jacked it to 1.8 just to see.

I might try to give it 1.7v for a while.
if I buy prometeia mach I, how many mhz will I gain at the same volt?

The prommy on a cpu will vary, some cpus wont budge, but others with a little more voltage fly, because the heat is dissapated.:D
