So as some of you may have noticed in the AMD or General Memory subsections, I've been inquiring about some direction in the area of RAM, but I feel like that has been sorted. So this is just a final review of what the build is going to have, and looking for any suggestions or oversights that there may be.
The only items that aren't currently owned will be marked with a '*'.
Case: MM Twice7
*Motherboard: Asus Crosshair III Formula
*CPU: AMD Phenom 2 X4 955
Heatsink: Noctua NH-C12P
*RAM: Mushkin 4GB DDR3-1600 7-7-6-18
Video Card: Radeon 4870x2
Sound Card: I have an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude...however, due to the motherboard setup and how things are currently, I need the PCI slot more for the TV Tuner, and will be using the Optical Out on the bundled motherboard sound card
TV Tuner: Diamond ATi theater 650 PCI
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer
HD: 300GB VRaptor
Optical Drive: Plextor PX-716SA
I think that covers everything that needs saying.

Buy a cheap SSD and you're done.
Everything else looks A+. Some will tell you to ditch the Crosshair for the GD-70 and Gigabyte UD5, but though the Crosshair might be a tad buggy because its new, you get to be among the group that test out different bios releases and share your results with other Crosshair owners on XS :)
Also, its currently the only mobo which can clock the 955 higher than 4Ghz with ease, or at least thats what I've seen.

consider the AMD edition OCZ platinum ram, great kits  (Micron d9kpt) otherwise looks good - I am one of the ones who will say get the GD70 as it is a wonderful board and is easy to go to 4ghz with (havent had time to play with more mhz because of other obligations)
personally I just dont like asus but if you think thats the board for you then do it :D

Well, I'm in the middle of going through university, and lucky enough that my dad is into hardware as well, and it's his money. But we've only ever gone with Asus since either of us were competent regarding hardware, with nary an issue.
Personally, I'm very excited about the developments with SSD's, but they're not quite at the point in development and cost/GB where I'm happy with it. Likely end up getting a 64GB drive next summer as a boot drive.
And NCIX is my source for the hardware, and they don't have the OCZ AMD Edition kit's as far as I can see.
I'm nowhere near a hardcore overclocker, and this setup will be considered a 24/7 machine, but I will push the CPU and RAM as far as I can go while maintaining reasonable voltages and temps.

I hear newegg.ca has gotten better about shipping with UPS and NOT sticking you with extra charges on delivery, they have the ram and probably better prices on everything than NCIX. Hopefully another canuck can chime in a say whether this hearsay is true or just newegg making people think they've fixed it.

Well, where I live, NCIX has exemplary service with Purolator...I think there have been times where items were ordered in the evening of one day, and were at our doorstep by noon the following morning, and we're 2 ferries away from Vancouver.
Also, Newegg doesn't have the kit that I want right now, the motherboard is $5 cheaper and the CPU $9 more expensive. Granted the RAM shows a good sized difference in price...but a part of me would rather stick with the known source in NCIX and go with the Mushkin.
