I'v seen 9800xt with Samsung 2.5ns and Hynix 2.5ns wich one will go highest on the mem do you guys think?

I would guess samsung. I think samsung makes a better all around chip. But this is simply an educated guess.

I thought they were all Hynix? Hynix is known to reach higher speeds AFAIK.

Got a Sapphire XT...and it has Hynix
Does 425 in 3DMark01 but with heavy artifacting... 410 artifact free.

i also had a hercules 9800 pro with 2.2ns hynix.

but the pro is better:

pro: 510/380
xt: 470/432

all with air (arctic cooling vga silencer).

2.0ns wtf hmm I thought they only used hynix 2.5 and samsung 2.5

This guy obviously doesn't know what he has.....

2.0ns=500mhz, or DDR1000 like on the high end Nvidia cards.

like I said, im probably wrong. But i just made a guess.

Even if he is running the memory at 432 that is still only 2.31ns. He needs to reach 500mhz for 2.0ns.

The RAM could be undervolted though which would explain the "low" memory clock speed.

2.0ns samsung

Doubt it, or it would be the talk all over to buy the asus card with the 2ns ram!!!!!!

Samsung doesn't mass produce 256Mbit 2.5ns DDR memory, much less 256Mbit 2.0ns DDR memory. They do offer 128Mbit 2.5ns DDR memory, but that would require 2x as many chips on a 9800XT 256MB.

Hynix offers 256Mbit 2.5ns DDR memory, but no 256Mbit 2.2ns DDR memory. They do mass produce 128Mbit 2.0ns, 2.2ns, and 2.5ns memory.

just because its 2.0ns memory doesnt mean it will run 500mhz...

its very common that videocard manufacturers sell higher rated memory that wont run as fast as planned cheaper.

not all 2.0ns memory chips will run 500mhz ddr so they sell the chips that dont for the same price as 2.5ns chips and clock them lower...

Even if it was 2.0ns mem and you volt-modded it, it wouldn't reach 500mhz. PCB would prohibit that; it'd need redesigning or something.

Not necessarily. Its given that ns rating in its current configuration. If you give it more volts it will run faster than its rated. For example the FX cards come with 2.0-2.2ns Hynix. I have seen them reach 1000-1100DDR (500-550Mhz) which would be 1.80-2.0ns.

Another example, Samsung 2.86ns memory on the 9800 Pros. We are seeing them over 400Mhz. That is 2.5ns and lower.

Speed_Mechanic--> I checked Samsungs site and it seems like the do sell 256mbit 1.25-6.0ns

1.25ns :slobber:

Speed_Mechanic

They produce 256Mbit 1.25ns DDR2 GDRAM in ES, but not anything lower then 256Mbit 3.3ns DDR1 GDRAM.

The 9800XT uses DDR memory, not DDR2 memory.

part number at the end is 20

20 2.0 ns (500MHz)

for the millionth time, the memory on R9x00 cards is rarely limited by the chips. The ns rating may be whatever you like, 2.5 or 2.0 it wont make a bit of difference. Im not sure if its the core or the PCB that pays the biggest role in memory OC (I am guessing its the PCB) but most likely if you would solder chips from an old 9800pro to the 9800xt it would OC higher on the XT than the pro

twoPhases - Could you post a pic of your card, focused on the memory? Or post the entire printing on the card (if you lack use of a digital camera)?

Then why wasn't it clocked at 500mhz? If it wasn't its not 2.0ns.

Ok then show me some 2.0/2.2ns ram on a Radeon that is doing 500mhz....I know some mem goes past it's rating (especially good stuff like Sammy 3.3), but I doubt we'll ever see 500mhz on the mem on a Raddy even if it's 2ns with the current cards out there....

There was a gigabyte card (radeon 9800 pro) with 2ns mem

There were some Radeon 9800 Pro's with Hynix 2.0.

But Samsung doesn't make 2.0ns DDR GDRAM, in 256Mbit or 128Mbit.
