I bought some of the OCZ EL PC3500 LE ram, and I was hoping to start it going at 250fsb at 2-2-2-5? Is that realistic? Soulburner, I thought you had a P4P board, and ran tight timings, so I hope you see this and reply. I saw the comparisons you did with the different settings and was quite suprised.

Still trying to get more speed outta this rig. Can't help feeling that I'm still missing something, so any ideas, shout them out...

You won't be able to get them to do 250mhz without 3.5 volts going through them.

Just put it 1:1 and see how far it goes.

they might reach that speed but your gonna need to feed them some voltage.

Excuse my n00bness here, but why would I need all that voltage? I set the divider to 5:4, fsb at 250, and go from there to see the max limit. Soul, if I read your info right, the speed with the 5:4 divider and tight timings was quite good!

Yes but from the way you worded it it sounded like you were going to run the ram at 250mhz.

Ah gotcha, sorry for the confusion there. I just thought 250fsb seemed a reasonable place to start, and I know that would rule out the 1:1 divider.

This memory I was told the BH5 stuff, so it should be all up to how good the stuff is I get and if the motherboard wants to play nice with it. So far this motherboard has been a bit on the cranky side when it comes to ram. Didn't seem to really like the Corsair, but has been fine with the OCZ Gold...

This combo better be good, otherwise I'm gonna be buggered when I get the P4 stuff. :D

I would'nt doubt it pengy. I'm sure your ram will do uber nicely with the P4 ;)

Not without about 3.5+ Vdimm...which is doable:D

Thanks for jumping in climbski! Here's what I already know. This particular motherboard will not do 250fsb, 1:1, stable. The NB can't seem to handle the 3D apps without a lot of artifacts and tearing. So, it seemed to me after seeing Soulburners findings, that 5:4 with tight timings might be the way to go. So that's my logic to date. The PC3700 Gold did ok at 5:4 with timings of 2-3-3-6, but nothing really great. Got to 280fsb stable and no artifacting in 3DMark.

Now about this memory! The stuff is rated 2-2-3-6 on OCZ's site, but the fine print says it will do tighter timings on certain boards. Also, how do you ever know if the memory really has the BH5 chips?

It will say on the chips Winbond, and BH-5. But, the only way you could find this is if you removed the heat spreader. Just be assured that the 3500 Platinum Limited Edition is BH5. The giveaway is it runs 2-2-2-5 timings easily. CH5 can run those timings sometimes, but it needs a lot of juice (3.0-3.2v) thrown into it just to do it, and at lower speeds.

Yep that timing your reading is due to an ANANDTECH article where they found some differences in what timings worked for certain boards. It is the BH5...and probably the best PCB that BH5 has been put in. :)

Thanks guys for the input.

One more thing Soulburner if you have the time. What voltage are you running your P4P800 at? Mine right now is...

Auto
2.85
1.5

You seem to have yours running tight and thats why I ask...

When I bench at the speed in my sig, its 1.650/2.85/1.5 but day to day I only run Auto/2.65/1.5. The VDDQ never needs to be raised for me, it only leads to lower FPS.

Nice setup, your is very similiar to mine including the Extra Special chip ;)

Thanks Silversink. That Extra Special chip, can't imagine not having it! Don't know what I'm gonna do for the next upgrade. Got a family member trying to hook me up with the right people at Rio Rancho, but that place is "Hard" to find a hookup ...

I assume youre talking about the 3500 Platinum LE - In which case yes they are BH5 equipped, but are branded up as OCZ.

As for the rated timings - the sole reason theyre rated 2-3-2-6 is because of the MAX3 and some other cheap boards on the qualification list playing up. Stick these sticks in a run of the mill P4C of 4PCA3+ and id be incredibly surprised if you werent running 2-5-2-2 at around 230mhz with 2.85v or so.

Ok guys, just wanted to do a small follow up and see if you all might see something I missed. Installed this ram today, and am now running it at the 270fsb with the 5:4 divider, Multi at 12x, that is listed in my sig. Timings are there as well. Wanted to run memtest86 tonight to do a sorta kinda burnin of the ram. Tomorrow I'm gonna try the 2-2-2-5 and see what happens?

Now Dram V=2.75 Tomorrow 2.85?
Now Turbo Enabled Tomorrow ?

Tryin' to think of everything here...

This stuff should OC to 280 or 285 @ 5:4 shouldn't it?

Thanks, Later....

Keep the Turbo Enabled...yes it should do about 280-285 with the 2.85v provided. It does undervolt though.

My HyperX does a max of 280 5:4 2-3-2-5 stable through 3DMark. It is just barely faster than 275 2-2-2-5, its almost the same.

Thanks Soul, appreciate the input. I have it now at 2-2-2-5 and 2.85v. Gonna run some memtest for a few hours then see what I get as far as benchmarks.

Ok Soulburner, in my book you are the man!!! :toast:

So far this has done everything you said it would and a bit more.

New PCMark Here (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm=1619389)

I know this is way off the mark for a lot of the guys here, but at least I am finally headed in the right direction again...
