View Full Version : Successful vdimm mod on K8V...

I did it saturday... It was pretty easy. I set my bios at 2.6 and moved the pot to 2.8v. Now I have 2.8, 2.9 and 3v.

But it doesn't help. Here's how I tested:

Ram at 2-2-2-11, also tried 2-2-2-5, 2-2-2-6 and 2-3-3-7

I set my multiplier to 9 just to make sure any errors were not cpu related.

Started at 220 fsb...no dimm voltage made it stable. Then I went down in 1mhz decreases all the way to 213fsb where I could finally complete a 3dmark01 bench and ran stable. I then moved my cpu back to a multi of 10x. Then it would crash at 213fsb. I upped the voltage to the cpu in small increments all of which had no effect.

I then moved the fsb down more where I reached 210fsb stable at a 10x multi. WHOOP DE DOO.... The same speed I could attain before the vmod.

Either I'm doing something really stupid, or there's something really wrong. Any ideas?

which ram?

Post some details about your memory like xgman said. It could be that you need to try different Dimm sockets too.

Corsair XMS PC3500 (1x512MB)... Sorry I forgot that critical detail...

I believe thaey use CH-5 chips? If so 2-3-2 timings, but you should have seen at least a small move with the voltage. Try a different dimm slot like maj suggested.

I thought CH-5 couldn't even do 2-2-2-x?

EDIT: I did try 2-3-3-7 though... If it is CH-5, maybe my lowest (2.7-8v) is too much?

EDIT2: Nevermind... I couldn't get any faster at lower voltages before I did the mod...

if you do indeed have ch-5, turn cas to ras delay to 3 instead of 2, bh5 doesnt like a C-R of 2.

that should work for ya. i have my ch5 at 2-2-3-11 @ 225 stable all day long.

just put your vdimm as high as it will go and loosen that timing a tad, see what you can do then

but I have 1x512MB stick of CORSAIR XMS 3500 and it will do 230MHz FSB fully stable at 11,2,2,2 using only 3.04v

worth a try.

my ch-5 doesnt like ras cas =3

i can do 230 2-2-3-5/11 @ 1.85vdimm fine but at any speed 2-2-2-5 is a no go.

How old are those sticks?
The XMS 3500 uses BH-5 correct (almost positive mine does)?
They should do 5-2-2-2 np, CH-5 hates 2 from what I understand.
