So I've recently built a new system on a Biostar T-Power X58 motherboard and I have a bit of a dilemma: The placement of my PCI-Express and legacy PCI slots is such that my wireless NIC blocks an unacceptable amount of airflow to my 4870's fan (my other PCI slot is taken up by my sound card), so I need to find a PCI-Express wireless NIC.

So far the only ones I can find are a D-Link model on Newegg and references to Dell and HP branded models at other sites.

Does anyone own a PCI-E wireless NIC and can you give me any suggestions?

I have a Linksys adapter (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX15810(ME).aspx). I don't have too much to say about it though, I've only used it very briefly. I will let you know the antenna connectors (3x) are a PITA to install/uninstall. If I ever manage to smarten up one day I'll toss it in the FS section. My current desktop can't even use a wireless adapter, I really don't have much use for it.

Wireless G? N?

And what is the use of the card... Some people need specific chipsets for various things...
I assume Windows, but what O/S, that can have a factor relative to the sentence above also.

Depending on where you are, i've got a spare G card sitting around that i thought had a chipset i needed, turns out it doesn't and there were "3" versions... lol.

G or N isn't too important to me as my connection is only 6Mb, anyhow, and I don't do a lot of PC-PC transfers. I'm running Vista and the 7 RC (both 64-bit). Basically, I'm just looking for something that will let me use both my soundcard and wireless at the same time and I'd rather replace the wireless card seeing as I just replaced the soundcard after I fried my last one (don't ask =P).

I've actually got a Linksys USB adapter, but I'm just too far from my AP for it to work.

These are the cards i have @ home...

Wireless N
- Netgear WN311B

Wireless G
- DLink DWL-G550
- Netgear WPN311GE (Here in AUS gets a "GE" model, no signifigant difference to the rest of the worlds version far as i know)

I do have another G card, i cant remember its model # though, its fairly old.
IMO the Netgear wireless application is buggy, with both cards it will randomly 'chime' as if its connecting to a network... Funny thing is though its already connected and hasnt not lost connection. The Netgear app has done this on both my XP machine, and Vista 64 machine. Some people might tolerate it, but i find it fken annoying so i am soon going to gigabit my network (ive recently moved, no need for wireless anymore in my new place).
To note - The range on the Netgear Wireless N card is excellent compared to my G cards. Not that im saying the G cards are crap.

So... after that waffle - I recommend the D-Link DWL-G550 overall if "G" network is ok for you. It has a larger antenna too and this does actually increase the range which is handy as it costs the same as most other "G" cards here in AUS so its a winner.

After a quick look around, and only 2 come up really... either the Abit AirPace Wi-Fi Card (http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/multimedia/multimedia_detail.php?pMODEL_NAME=AirPace+Wi-Fi&fMTYPE=AirPace+Family) or the more expensive D-Link Xtreme N™ PCI Express Desktop Adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=549)

not sure if any of those would help lol...

Thanks for all the input, guys. I decided to go with an Abit Airpace because I was able to get one extremely cheap on ebay (not from China =P), which is good considering the fact that I only need it until about August or so and then only sporadically afterward.
