For those of us that like everything to be perfect, have you ever taken the time to see if your i7 CPU(s) is/are Concave or Convex? Both of mine right now are Convex (the middle area raises) a little. I do not feel like lapping them, though, unless they are very bad. However, I know lapping them will give me a little better temperature. Not sure if they all are suppose to raise a little like that or if it's just manufacturer imperfection.

do you mean convex? its way better to have a raised middle then raised sides. my d0 was concave temps where awful so i lapped it

Yes, "convex," just made the correction. :yepp:

I was thinking of the opposite. With concave, you can fill it up with thermal paste, but with convex, the heatsink actually would be tilted a little to one side so contact is worse? But what do I know anyway...?

Mine is convex. Did not tried to setup the pc with it yet, will probably do @ weekend.

Just heat it up in the oven then put an ice cube on it to pop it out. Yeah I'm completely kidding.

Thing is you want to have the best IHS contact in the middle as that's where the cores are  The edges dont matter much

mine was concave. took an hour to grind down so that I was actually hitting the center of the IHS.
