i've had this chip at 3.6ghz 24hour prime stable before.
but i've had some problems w/ freezing so i reset cmos, did some ram diagnostics, etc and my system hasn't frozen in a week so i'm back to OCing.
CPU is Q6600 VID: 1.2125
right now i'm at 9x333 = 3.0ghz @ 1.3vCore. ram at 2:3 (500mhz) 5-5-5-15 2T@ 2.0v
do you think 50 passes of LinX (all ram) + 12hours of p95 is enough?

I never primed longer than 8 hours, neither did I test more than 20 passes of Linx... yet all my rigs are stable for daily use...Maybe not Linx stable. For many that's oh so important, but I don't care about that at all. As no testprogram is 100% certified to be called the ultimate stability tool. Daily (ab)usage is what makes me assume it's stable ( folding, benching, encoding,...and last but not least when time left some online gaming)
for stability test I start off with some custom FFT's 20K for a few hours to determine Vcore, then I start with ram tweaking and let her do some Memtest (test 5 and 7), if that passes we go into windows and run some Hyperpi 32mb on all the cores. Then I run some 3dmarks in a loop (01 and 06 ) Last but not least I finish with Linx or IBT. But I have to admit even if the last one fails on one iteneration I don't mind as the PC is more than stable enough for daily ops.
I would try to get 445-450FSB stable mate and get the most of that mobo/CPU/RAM combo. Which Gskills are that ? the 1000Mhz PQ kit ?
333FSB at that Vcore shouldn't even be tested. This OC should be set on the fly , just determing the lowest Vcore might take some further in depth testing.

thanks ^^
currently i'm at 9 x 356 = 3.2ghz w/ ram @ 1:1 (356mhz) 5-5-5-14, 2T @ 2.08v
i tried getting 9x400 for 3.6ghz but linx kept failing around 7 passes. the settings i used were: 9x400, 1.475vCore, 1.3MCH Core, 4:5 (500mhz) 5-5-5-15, 2T, 2.08vCore
can someone give me some better settings to use?

Try first some prime small FFT to see if it's more Vcore related... makes it easier to determine. What's your FSB term voltage at ?

wouldn't it be better to use linX first since it finds errors more quickly than p95 (small/large/blend/any)?
all my other voltages are on AUTO in bios. the ONLY voltages i've set for my current test is
vCore: 1.45v
MCH Core: 1.3v
vRAM: 2.08v
currently testing: 9 x 389 = 3.5ghz. 1:1 (389mhz), 5-5-5-15, 2T
its passed 25 passes of LinX all ram. should i move on to working on 3.6ghz or should i go wih 24 hours of p95 Large (or small?)?

Is that a 64 bit OS ? if it errors now how do you know if it was the CPU or RAM ? that's my main issue with Linx... if prime small fails it's usually CPU, if that's stable then you need to go hunt down ram and NB via blend... Also Linx pushes a cpu so much harder and requires more vcore then prime... so it's best not to use both programs.
3.6 migt be 1.5Vcore for ya CPU , hope it will work out

no i'm working on XP-32.
well 3.5ghz (9x389) passed 25 passes of LinX and its working on 12 hours of p95 (large) right now. would it be safe to call this "stable" after 12 hours of P95 Large? should i move onto 3.6ghz after just 12 hours?
i briefly tried @ 3.6ghz recently and couldn't get it linX stable just by 1.45vCore + 1.3 MCH Core + 2.08vRam. (all else auto) what other settings do you suggest changing?

Prolly just more Vcore mate, try straight 1.5. I had very erratic results under a 32 bit OS with Linx. I test pime small FFT for Vcore determination and then go Blend for ram nb check... a few hours is more than sufficient for me. Then I use the rig and if there are no anomilaties it's okay... if I get some weird stuff I dig deeper...

thanks leeg
looks like i'm pretty good @ (9x400) 3.6ghz right now.
i'm at 1.45 vCore, 1.3MCH Core, 2.08 vRam (1:1) 5-5-5-15, 2T.
thanks for all the help guys i dont think i'm going to push it anymore than 3.6

for my UD3R to run at 400mhz FSB, would i need 1.2v MCH Core? i'm at 1.3 now and i hear some squealing every few seconds coming from my pc (even under idle)
i'm wondering if the high MCH Core voltage @ 1.3v is too high

You can try to go lower on MCH mate, but a quad and 4Gb could go with a little lower but not much. The squealing might be due to load on the powercircuit due to the quad. At idle though it's weird and might just be a eg a bad coil

yea i'm REALLY hoping i dont have to RMA my MB AGAIN. i just got this last month!!! i hate taking my system apart.
just to be sure what did u mean by "be a eg a bad coil"
i lowered my MCH Core to 1.26v and it passed 25 passes of all ram linX and i'm calling it safe lol
