Ok, current situation is, had a msi canterwood, first one i coudl find in uk way back when they launched. It was okay, but i could never really tweak it, mem changes never registered in windows, and it was buggy. Still got it, forgot to sell :p

Went to a abit ic7 max 3, never really liked it, and price wise i am selling on as main sys is now ath 64 so something cheaper i thought would be better for this system.

I grabbed a p4p thinking pat was enabled, i assume its still the case that with modded bios off older board i can get pat above 200 1:1 but using only 1:1? Its not really best situation, although i am considering a 2nd hand p4C 3.0 for cheap, so 1:1 and good clock may be fine, but not too likely i'd guess, will this hit 250, 3.75Ghz on watercooling if it might, then vdimm to 3.2 and bh-5 might get me to 250, but i'm assuming canterwood and 5:4 cas 2,2,2,5 would be better option.

Ok, if thats the case, i could try the msi again(but i never really liked it) . I guess 2 things, did the msi board get fixed at all, new bios's don't mention anything. 2nd thing is, what cheap board would be best. P4C or IC7. Gonna find the mod for P4C vdimm, is the IC7 mod that hard to do, non skilled solderer(so far). WOuld P4C be better option.

Last thing i guess is, assuming i get the 3Ghz, and stuck with the P4P, with modded bios and hacked Pat mode at 1:1, will that be as fast as a P4C at same speed and settings?

Errm, well, i can't decide. I also don't fancy the IC7 max 3 again, it was fast, but never felt stable, and i don't need most of the features of it.

meh, i'm assuming main choices for max speed and overclocking and relative cheapness is gonna be, P4c or IC7+vdimm mods. Are there any other good manu's boards out right now. Epox? hows it compare clock for clock on teh asus and abit, same? Any others? Gigabyte? i'm kinda peeved with them right now, soo many problematic boards from them lately

What is the average overclock of P4c's at the moment, I can't seem to get this 2.4C above 280 or so mhz, but not sure if thats down to mem, can do that 1:1 and 5:4, but maybe 5:4 isn't stable above that either, mem not happy on 5:4 at that point. I dunno.

Basically if i could buy a 2.6, 2.8 or 3.0Ghz pretty cheap, which would be best, i mean at 250mhz would teh 3.0 do that on watercooling? Or would that be quite a bit above average?

I guess choice is a 3.0 at around 240-250 1:1 with vdimm and trying to get bh-5 that high. Or try a 2.6 or 2.8C with very low timings and 5:4.
