View Full Version : q6600 + Temperature programms
I have a q6600 G0 in my cousins PC.
With stock clocks + Tr extreme 120 Bios temp for the cpu is 28C
Inside windows (xp pro+7 rc) i get for Real Temp/Core Temp/HWmonitor/Speedfan a core temp wich varies between 48-52C iddle .
My question is how is that possible?
The Tj.Max temp for these cpus is 100 or 85?

Due to all the hard work of UncleWeb I think that Realtemp is the most reliable mate. There are usually slight differences between all these monitoring programs due to the applied Tjmax settings. The readout in the bios is a sensor placed under the CPU and it's reading can be affected by numerous factors. Go with coretemps only !!
BUT 48°C IDLE IS WAY TOO HIGH for a stock CPU
I know. That's what makes me wondering if they are right....
With stock i had 55-58.
Something is off..????

Bios is CPU ie IHS temp which is usualy 5-6c less then core temps. but the core temps you have are very high.
TJ max is either 100 or 95c, definitly not 85c for B0. Intel claims 90c, see below

Make sure you have latest version of speedfan etc. Maybe reseat TRUE and make sure it has good contact pressure.

Don't bother with TJMax value. All that matter is distance to TJMax (straight on-die sensors readings). Keep it >20-30 and you're good to go.
BTW TRUE without lapping and washer mod is just a decent heatsink.

Yea, true without those mods are just a decent cpu cooler. I saw a drop in 5 -7 C on my q66 when I had it.
Τhe true is seated greatly. The thermal paste was applied with a bag in my hand and tha proper amount. The point is that even with other coolers the tests are crazy. Is it possible the sensors have gone crazy?(Bios are down 40C)

Every temperature sensor, core or CPU, is full of a pile of possible error. The core sensors are especially bad at reporting accurate idle temperatures. I sent you a PM to explain how to check the accuracy of your core sensors. Give it a try and see what it says. There's not much point in comparing an inaccurate CPU sensor to an inaccurate core sensor. Out of the box, they are both like random numbers.

just for reference, where does the latest version of speedfan take core readings from? are they the same as "realtemp/Coretemp"?
what about CPUID's Hardware Monitor? i like this simple program with lots of readings at once

In theory, Core Temp, RealTemp, Speed Fan, Everest, HWMonitor and etc. should all be reading their data from the exact same sensors when reporting core temperatures.
There is still a problem with one of those programs when reporting the temperatures of Core i7 CPUs. It only reads the temperature data from the first 4 threads which only contains temperature info for the first two cores and ignores the other two cores when hyper threading is enabled. I'll let users figure out which program is guilty. :)
