I know that everyone seems to have their own preferred order for running the tests, but I was wondering if someone could explain how the tests affect one another.
I did some testing this evening and ran the tests in 2 different orders. I used the same CPU, FSB, GPU, and Vmem speeds. Here is what I found:
First order tried - Drag Hi, Car Hi, Car Lo, Drag Lo, Nat, Lob Lo, Lob Hi
-- This order tends to give me low scores on Car Lo and Drag Lo compared to other people, so I tried running those 2 tests first. --
Second order - Car Lo, Drag Lo, Drag Hi, Nat, Car Hi, Lob Lo, Lob Hi
My final scores were very similar. However, the second order gave me 4 fps more on Car Lo, 1.5 fps more on Drag Lo, and 1.5 fps more on Drag Hi, but I got 3 fps less on Car Hi, 2 fps less on Lob Lo (Lob Hi and Nat were the same). BTW, I ran each order twice and got about the same results each time.
What made the Car Hi and Lob Lo fps go down? Just luck? Is there another order I should try? Anyway, I am just looking for some other people's ideas. TIA...

I really don't think that it matters. But car-low is really flaky and the fps can vary a lot from run to run. So I usually re-run car low over and over again till I get a good score, then move on. If my system is pushed to the absolute limit (which is usually), I'll do car low first, then nature, and if it's still running, I'll finish the other tests. Usually if I bomb out of 3dmark it's during car low or nature.

From my experience, the first test you run have a big boost compared to normal run.
I run Car Hi first, as the best part of my system is CPU speed:) Running it 1 gives 140-143FPS, running at another sequence - 130-135FPS.

Has anyone ever gotten a score without running all the game tests needed to get a final score?
That is the only uploaded score I have but I have been able to reproduce the same results a second time.
I have had the best results with drag low, nature, drag high, car low, lobby low, car high and lobby high

it isnt necessary to run nature to get a score in 3dmark '01. thats why people with non-dx 8 cards can still get a 3dmark score even though their cards dont support the nature test.

i've run the tests before so that nature was the last one and it never gave me a score until I ran the nature test. That's why I thought it wasn't an ordinary score.

I run them like this.
Dragothic Low - It gets the biggest boost from running first, thus getting the most point gain from any test
Car Low - I run this second because its so unpredictable. I get a good run on it and get it out of the way BEFORE I run all the other tests.
Lobby Low
Lobby High
Car High
Dragothic High
Nature
May not be like others but it works for me.

Damn, I dont get it. I really need to install 3dmark2001 again and try this, you can run each test indivdually? Can you take a break in between? How come no ever said this before. Can someone put this in terms that an idiot could understand. Can you run a test over and over and then use the best of each to post your results?
I must be an idiot cause i dont understand this really. I thought all test had to be ran in order and all at once( just the first four game tests).

Nope, you can run one test and than wait as long as you want before you run the next, you can change clockspeeds etc during this.
