Hi everyone!
I'm tryin' to get a (good) new P4, and the only CPUs the computer-shops have in store have the FPO-code beginning with Q.
One guy from a shop tried to tell me that the FPO-Codes don't have anything to do with where the CPU comes from...
Does anyone know if these Q-CPUs are any good?
btw. Searching the forums didn't get me any answers... :(

AFAIK Q is the country code for malaysia so I would imagine its pretty good....... nothings guaranteed to be to good though in the overclocking world.......

Now I'm confused. Always thought L was malaysia...

Q= Malaysia, just like L.
But most cpu's with a Q in the FPO# suck big time.
Try to get another Malaysian, beginning with L.

Ive noticed the same thing, I think the Qs are inferior to the Ls.

So then it's offical now. I NEVER EVER get any good CPUs, whatever I do...
I could jump out of the window right now :upset:

You don't know until you try it.

Why not ask the shop if they can send you one with the L code?
Or have they already shipped the cpu?
If so, give them a call and ask if you can return it (unopened of course :D ) for a L-batched Malaysian.

That was the only CPU available (the shop only had Q's, no L's...
at least it was the cheapest offer...
And btw. unforunately, I do know before I try. Every single Athlon I had was a 'bad' CPU (and I had a lot of them - 2x 2200+, 2x 2400+, 1x 2500+, 2x 1700+, 1x 2000+ in the last 2 years) no matter what stepping or production date... not a single CPU went above 2200 MHz, despite the (good) watercooling I use...
:(
No no, dont send it back, its just luck with these. YOu never know that Q may be a gem. I have a early Costa that does 3.5ghz 1.55 volts, i thought it would suck bigtime when i got it, was also OEM :stick:

I'd prefer to buy a Costa Rica than a Malaysian Q. ;)
JC has a 2.4C Q.... which is a crap overclocker. So has a friend of mine. He has a 2.4C Q, and can barely reach 3Ghz with it.
