View Full Version : Intel SSD Price Drop
From mac rumor forums:
A retail shop employee said on a Japanese PC forum that Intel was expected to reduce the price tags of its X25-M series around April 26.
At the same time, HP Japan announced that it will start shipping its new mini 2140 notebook with X25-M 80GB for about $800 (or 79,800 yen) at the end of this month, which is only about $100 more expensive than the 160GB 7200rpm HDD model. According to HP site in US, the price difference is currently $325 in US, which may support Intel's price cut rumor.
If the price cut is true, I'll replace every HDD I have now!

that would make the x-25m approximately 175-200$ i believe (tops), which would be very yum

If this is true the Earth will shake. It will radically alter the the availability of SSD's to the public and will punish the competitors.

When that happens I´m going to get another X-25M 80GB..

Remember that in Q3 or 4 we get 320 gb 'M' models which should shift the pricing again. And for many, 300+ is a reasonable number in capacity.

Prices dropping excellent. Next year they will be more in the viable area for many people.
160Gig is good, 250Gig would be nice and 320Gig would be the bomb.

This would tumble the prices of all of their competitors as well, which would mean we (people like me with out tons of money) could afford some very nice SSDs.:D

I will consider a 320GB SSD for the OS drive on my next PC build! Until them my old Raptor is still the King of HD!!!

if prices continue to drop like this, a pair of SSDs may eventually find a home in my new computer

Intel SSD Price Cut On April 26th
http://resources.vr-zone.com//uploads/6930/Intel_SSD_Pricecut_1.jpg
Intel plans to cut the prices of their SSDs ranging from $50 to $100 this coming Monday on the 26th of April. This is their second price cut on SSDs just two months after they conducted their first price cut in early February. Intel 80GB X18-M and X25-M will see their prices dropped from $385 to $335 while 160GB versions will be lowered from $760 to $660. However, the prices of the SLC models remain unchanged at $410 for 32GB and $790 for the 64GB.

I'm just hoping it pushes the price down of the OCZ Vertex as well!

74.5 gb is not sufficient for vista drive these days, at least for me. one doesn't have to be a hardcore gamer to easily fill that space.

Lies, im on a 70GB partition with Vista Ultimate and Office 2007, plus other apps and still have 15GB free. :p:
80GB is more then enough for a OS, and if i would trim Vista i bet i could get out another 2 gigs.

Still very expensive...I was going to be interested if the price was $1 for 1GB.

Im personally waiting for the Q4 models with twice the space using 34nm NANDs vs 50nm. Plus the nextgen controller.
Desktop will get a 320GB SSD and no HD. HTPC a 80/160GB or so for OS and pictures plus a xTB green HD for movies and music.

how is it a lie? i said that for me, 75gib is not gonna cut it. i too have vista ultimate, open office , some apps, couple of games. all that makes 100gb. and vista needs some free space for its own use too, doesn't it?
i'm sold though as soon as there will be a 120gib ssd with good controller for <200€

Fixed. This "you don't need more than XXGB" is getting ridiculous.

I need at least 150 GB for my OS and apps, 2x75GB settles it but no way for 1300$ :D
660$ you mean? Unless you want SLC. But I cant see much use of SLC outside the server market. And even then it would need to be heavy I/O.

My Windows 7 Beta and Windows XP OS partitions are both 15GB... of course the OS's is stripped but I prefer installing games on another partition so I don't have to reinstall every time I format.
I'd be interested in a 120GB+ SSD (not the cheapo ones) but not until it costs 150 EUR or less.

+1 to that RPGWizard, my root drive is 40GB and using 20.
I'm waiting for a (good) 64GB to hit VRaptor 150GB prices then I'm in! 40/22GB split ;)

If they do drop to that price range then I'd also be interested in investing in the ssd's. However I see this as wishful rumours and it'll still be alot longer before we see the ssd's hit a reasonable price range per gig.

Mmm I reckon it'll be a little while before we see SSD's at Mechanical prices, esp when you factor in $/performance/GB, the SSD are always going to be more $/GB alone.
And that's the trade off. Why buy a 146GB SAS when you can get a VRaptor 300GB and then when you can get 2x1.5TB drives?
