View Full Version : 80w pelt from a 5+ rail?
Well i'm running my 80w pelt from my 12+ line but my rails are dropping like bricks.
What if i run it from a 5+ rail...can it run and how much will temp differ?

well, 5/12 x 80 is what you'll be getting.
Assuming the pelt will even run at that voltage.

I'v never had a problem running them at 5, but just don't stick it on your vidoo card like that. I have had some problems with running them at 7V.
So i should not try it than?
It looks like you need new PSU mate...
If your 12v line drops after you connect 80watt TEC....
Running 80 watt on nything lower than 12 volts is pointless unless you want to cool your nb (and this is doubtful) or ... some vid car which doesn't produce any significant amount of heat...
I have a 550w antec truecontrol..but my rails drop tp 11.4 on the 12+ line..and 4.7 on 5+ line (measured with multimeter)
what else is plugged into this psu?

Sorry to say I've ALWAYS thought they were a tad on the crap side... I'm using a hiper 520w at the moment... fully loaded and 12v drops to 11.6 with Pelt running and everything at full load...
2x HDDs
2x CDs
2x Cathodes
4x Laser LED Clusters
5x 80mm Panaflo fans
1x Enermax FanBus
1x Matrix Orbital LK2024 (I think.... 4 liner in blue)
1x 80w Pelt
1x 120mm Delta Fan

XP2700+ @ 2.9Ghz @ 2.15v (at the mo... I WILL get 3Ghz outta this sucker!)

(One assumes you're using a Promi Mk II as shown in yer sig... that ALSO runs off the 12v rail... well, the fans and ChillController do...)

Yep your right...and i thought go to hell with this crap psu and i ordered a 200w 24v meanwell for pelt (Gonne upgrade to 172w)
Well, it all depends where are you. In UK Meanwell is so expensive that I can buy two Enermax 465 series 431watt psu's for the prtice on one Meanwell!!!
Anyways, I am using one of the above Enermaxes and I am a happy bunny running MCW5000P-T off it with all the rest (excluding MCW80-T and fans).
I am planning on buying another Enermax (I love this brand!) to have it all for mobo and nothi9ng else (to give it the cleanest power possible).
Unless I find some sweet server PSU on eBay (like those Delta monstrosities!)
