crazy idea, but hey this is where it gets interesting...

all this depends on how similar the physics of water and air are
i imagine they're close enough for this operation

if it is possible to take a great heatsink like a slk900 or a MCX462-V and use that as your waterblock

i.e. you put a metal case or plastic case around the heatsink, making it watertight, put some 1" barbs on :p: get a hugh pump that can keep up...

you get the idea

however i think this is the point of diminishing returns
unless your replaced water with LN2 maybe?

summary: to water cool a aircooled heatsink

it's been discussed before, and theya re basically built on different principles.

Like air cooled heatsinks have huge baseplates to spread out the heat, but with watercooling the water conducts heat well enough that you don't have to spread out and trap heat in a big baseplate.

actually, I just finished doing that very thing. It started out as a Coolermaster 1U server HS.

The one on the left is stock, the one on the right is chopped up. Then I just built a cap, soldered on some tubing and violia...

This is just a prototype, I'm doing another one with the untouched block that is retaining about 90% of the fins.

Here's a soldered up shot.

There's a list of pix here if you want to look. (http://home.gci.net/~carrion/block/)

I was going to do a step by step how to, but cant find the time. The second one has been done for about a month now, but is still waiting for a lapping job and some paint..

It seems to be working fairly well, It's runnin my 2.4c@ 38* 3421

Hello to all, I'm new and I'm from Italy :toast: .

I think this is one of the best waterblock we can find in our country, let me know whato do you think about it ;) .

A little bench (the HFE is another italian waterblock): http://www.pctuner.net/Sezione%20Hardware/Tuner/Immagini/YbrisStealth/grafico4.gif

Of course, there is the gpu waterblock, too :) .

Pretty nice GPU block you have there. I like the way the barbs are angled up.

I'd say the WW or Cascade would outperform the CPU block, but nice workmanship.
