I've noticed that whenever I put my 780i into another case or anything, it gets really pissed off at me and keeps giving instant FF and no video. Sometimes pulling the cmos battery works, other times it doesn't. I had to rma it 2 times to get it to work with my 1st case, now I bought an antec 900 and put it in there and it is pissed off again. What the hell is wrong with this board? How can I fix it?

"or anything"? So it also fails to boot when running out of a case?

Yeah but sometimes it boots out of the case.

is it a grounding issue?

I cant say its not but I doubt it since it happens every time I put it in a new case and it also happens outside the case. Could it be my cpu cooler touching something? It is the only new component and I have never had the problem before I ised that cooler. Its a coolermaster one that is shaped like a stock cooler btw...it was free.

One way to find out, isn't there. If it sometimes boots, sometimes doesn't, even out of a case, I'd be inclined to think PCB warping bringing component traces into and out of contact with each other. If you've changed the cooler recently and the problems started then, I'd be looking at the new cooler - I take it it's a pushpin design, and not a backplate? It's probably causing the socket area to warp.

No its a backplate with 4 springy screws. This is my third 780i board with this cooler that is having problems. Also, when I ripped the old case out I didnt take off the cpu cooler since everything was running fine. Now that its back in im having problems.

Try easing up on the tension on those screws, or swapping it out for a stock cooler. Unless we can get some pics of the cooler in question and mounted on the board, it'll be hard to give you any reasonably informed opinion on whether it could be shorting something.

Yeah I have never heard of a case causing problems of any sort like that. So it is not the case its something you are doing with the motherboard.

That was the first thing I tried thinking it somehow warped the board. The cooler looks exactly like stock but it has a backplate. Ill try to put it on water and see how it works.
