Hello Everyone,
I am pretty much decided on getting the 120hz monitor to run 3D on my system, however want your opinions:
Both the Samsung and Viewsonic run on 1680x1050 max resolution.
I am not sure what the Asus will run at, since they announced during CEBIT 2009 and they stated 120hz gaming, but my current Asus monitor (24", 60hz) is 1920x1080 and looks great while gaming.
I want to get the above strictly for the 3D. Is there an alternative 120hz monitor (or TV that can be used as a monitor) that is 120hz and can be used for gaming?
I'd like to stay with 1080p at least, and can't seem to decide.

Pretty sure those are the only 2 120Hz displays on the market.

I bet they are the same panel.

hmm, what about the 120Hz 1080p LCD TVs??? I know there are a decent number out. Plus, you get a much bigger screen
But yeah, with only two LCDs out @ 120Hz, I'm guessing they have the same panel so I'd just get the cheaper one, all those brands are good anyways

Those aren't true 120Hz displays. They just use a trick to show frames more than once, and as far as a computer is concerned, they are still detected as 60Hz displays.
They will not work for 3D effects.

the 3d effects i dont know how you get that with 120hz moniters
but what is the advantage from 120hz moniters vs. 60 hz?

but what is the advantage from 120hz moniters vs. 60 hz?
- Can get up to true 120 FPS, games run smoother.
- Lowers ghosting, (digitalversus measured twice as little ghosting as fastest 60Hz they've tested for example)
- Lower input lag (ViewSonic has 0 or near 0 ms input lag, Samsung has an acceptable ~10ms avg lag)
- Can disable vsync for more games => lower mouse lag
So the benefits are mainly for gaming but also when scrolling internet pages for example the text will remain so much clearer and it appears to scroll smoother etc, basicly any movement on the screen will appear smoother.

What do you mean? Whats to stop you from disabling v-sync on a 60Hz monitor? (in fact, most people do)
If anything, the 120Hz refresh rate of these monitors would be an incentive to enable v-sync, as it will create less input lag than when enabled witha 60Hz monitor. On my CRT, with v-sync enabled, there was less input lag at 100Hz than there was at 60Hz.
Is the Viewsonic model actually available yet. I can't find it anywhere in NZ, and the Samsung is only available on pre-order. :(

Most, including myself, play with vsync because of tear. Tearing drives me crazy. If someone would come out with a 1920x1200 or 1080 24"+ monitor, I would be all over it. I hear someone is coming out 2H of 09 with such a monitor. Though, I hear that at a 120hz that 1920x1080 is the limit of available bandwidth over a d-dvi cable.

I'm aware of that, otherwise v-sync wouldn't exist...
I can't stand tearing either.

I was going to buy one of these 22" 120Hz monitors, but ten I realized that all my old 4:3 games would have to be tiny. I need at least 1200 vertical pixels (so I can 1:1 pixel map 1600x1200), so I gess I'm out of luck.
I'm going to get a good 24" 60Hz LCD, and just put up with the high input lag caused by running v-sync at a low refresh rate.

tearing is very hard to see at 120hz or better, which is why RPGWIZ said you can play without vsync. If you can't see the tearing any more, vsync is pointless. I sold my FW900 a couple weeks ago and just ordered the Viewsonic, I'll let you all know what I think when it gets here next week. I never thought I would get rid of my CRT for an LCD but these 120hz monitors seem like the real deal. And I got really tired of the FW900's quirks.

u can do 2560x1600 @ 60hrz so im sure that 1920x1200 can do 120hrz with dual link dvi-i using rgb as that should be just above 7Gb/s and the dual link dvi-i can do just under 8
i would be happy with a 100 or 85hrz 1920x1200, if that was out i may have to change from the trini
