View Full Version : #1 GF3 Ti500 on the ORB

OK, I know this isn't much to brag about but it's been a while since I grabbed #1 in any categories. I'm going to try an 85W TEC on the GPU and vmod the memory tonight and shoot for 15K.

This IC7-Max3 is performing like absolute crap, I can't run Cas2 and the cpu is maxing out at 200+mhz lower than on a P4C800.

Very nice score ShortCircuit :toast: 288 is a nice core clock for the Gf3 ... mine has Peltier and chilled water and only does 270 in the GF3 ti200 class ...sigh .

I will be benching it again soon, see if I can get further up the front page from about4th-5th at present in that class.

wow you are getting dangerously close to my ti4200's score of 14642, its about time for me to shoot for 15.5k+ on that :D

I can actually do 290 core if I wait like 5 minutes between runs. Otherwise it will pause and come back to life intermittenly during runs. With better cooling 300 core might be possible. With aircooling (stock hercules 9800p cooler and tweakmonsters) it was only running 274/600.

But watch out for Arne Anka, his 14k score were with only a barton, everything aircooled and no vmods.

hows your prograss to 15k marks? thats crazy too, you are beating my and most other's ti4200s!!!!!!!

I managed 14397 3DMarks (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7203857) still on straight watercooling. I vmodded the memory and got it up to 640 mem. However as I will be picking up a 9800XT and replacement A64 mobo this afternoon, I don't think I will be benching the GF3 for a while.

OK, I didn't get my 9800XT yet so I did some more benching yesterday with my Ti500. I "couldn't find" my 85w peltier so "I was forced" to use a larger 226w tec ;)

My system was running like total crap but I still managed 14655 3DMarks (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7216161) at 300/665.

Geforce4ti4200, I finally beat your score with a Ti500. I myself managed 18341 3DMarks (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7211468) two days ago with a Ti4200. That card is toast now, I fried the vmem.

wow man those are steller clock speeds for the ti500! yes you just ate my ti4200 by 13 marks. the low fsb of the kt400 is hurting my lobby scores and this is where you beat me by alot. Once my abit nf7 arrives I should get 16k if I tweak everything right and I need to get my ti4200's clocks up from 290/600. might need to try a v mod or another ti4200 :) as for my ti500 she does 265/600 and I tried a core v mod but it didnt help, maybe the connection isnt good. I want like 280/620 on the ti500 and to break 13k marks on that :)

Maybe the resistor you used has too much resistance? I used a 670 ohm resistor on vcore, and (2) 670 ohm resistors for the vmem mods. Switching from 1kohm to 670 ohm on the mem mods took me from 640 to 665mhz. I'm still not sure what my voltage is set at or where to measure the voltage from :eek: If I knew, I would try using VR's.

I used a 1K ohm to the core. the soldier appears to be touching but barely. must it be thickly layered over or just two metals touching will do?

Impressing oc there shortcircuit :thumbsup: - I have the same card, I have stock ramcooling, and modified P4 card for the core (link for pictures in signature), I can only do 270/570.......

Are the tweakmonster ramcoolers really 30 mhz better then the stock cooling?

As long as the pins are soldered together, you should be OK. Try measuring the resistance on the resistor with a multimeter (after it's soldered on). If it reads anything other than 1k ohm, you should be OK (it should read less than 1k, but surely not 0 ohms).

Great job my man! :toast: I'm currently seeing if I can break 4k with a GeForce 2 Ti and an Intel Celeron Tualatin 1.2G; (got the card at 260/500 running stable so far, can't wait to get home and have some more fun :D)

I was thinking to take them off and do some benching to see if they even make a difference. They aren't getting very warm. The thing that I am still trying to understand is that I got almost 40mhz on my memory OC just by switching the gpu from aircooling to h2o. That's after I had the tweakmonsters installed. I can only assume that the aircooling on the gpu was warming up the tweakmonsters, but 40mhz!!

I have to say, tweaking this old card (and also my ti4200, RIP) have been a lot of fun. More fun than benching a 9800 I think, since pushing the card too far usually results in slow performance instead of a lockup. And at this point if the Ti500 starts on fire I wouldn't be nearly as upset as I was last weekend when my Hercules 9800p started on fire (yes, fire).

Ok - impressive! Didn't think it would make a 40 mhz change just switching that gpu cooler......

I don't dare oc'ing it anymore, as a little smd resistor fell of last weekend - the card is still working 100% fine without the resistor (i'm impressed that it actually still works....)

Damn what did you do to that card? it really started on fire?

On the front of the 9800p above the core to the left you have 4 little chips that are underneath a heatsink. I removed the heatsink and cracked the chip on the bottom. So I swapped the chip with one from another dead 9800p. Seems that when I soldered the chip back on, my soldering gun was a bit too hot and three pins got connected to... something else. And hence the fire. But now we are getting off-topic.

Perhaps you lost a surface mount cap and not a resistor, this would better explain why the card still works.

To bad abut that 9800p ......

As far as i can see there's nothing left of the resistor - only the 2 spots where it was soldered to the card.....

RAM won't go past 500MHz (its rated speed) I'll either need to get a fan or som RAMsinks, :dammit: core seems stable at 290 so far though, :toast:
