If I have water at or below 0°, do I even need a TEC? Will the temp on the coldplate keep falling as the water temp goes down or at some point does the temp differential become nill?
Running an MCW50+T with stock 80W.
I saw the thread about replacing the 80W with a higher rated TEC also and am wondering when that becomes necessary.
Thanks,

What are you cooling with the mcw50-t?

Well, depends on a lot of things. What chiller is this? what are the wattage:temp ratios on it?
It will either drop your temps by a little bit, or it will hurt them if you have a weak chiller.

Chiller = Bucket of icewater;)
But assume that the water temp will never go over 0°
So again my two questions are
1 - Do I need the TEC at all, and what temps do you think the coldplate is sustaining with TEC at 12v on Meanwell?
2 - What will the 172 pelt swap do for the temp's if water/heat output stay constant? Sandman answered this question but I would like some more info/clarification, or even bench's.

Well, I don't know of any "numbers" as every system will vary, especially when it isn't like a stock chiller ;)
But, it will be an extra 172 watts of heat. So, like another cpu in the loop. My geuss is that, as long as you keep a good supply of ice in the bucket it won't affect temps all that much.
Pelts lose efficiency as thier hot side temp drops, but it will still make a difference.
Sorry, I geuss I didn't answer many questions, but I typed this all up, so it's getting posted.
