yes this is right, 4WU at once, and it only takes 9sec per WU on ATI 4870 :)

it looks like i might have to start doing some ATI buying now

heres the linkey where i got it from.

sorry about that riptide, only ATI 38xx 48xx. it needs the RV670 and up.and for this you can use nvida but its no where near as fast. and for NVIDA, only the GTX260 and above will work.

baaah. Ah well. At least theres a decent project for teh ATi boys.

EDIT: IIRC doesn't Win 7 allow both Nvidia and ATi cards in the same system? COuld be a winner. A GTX295 and a 4870 in one.

Looks like I might have to buy me a card to run this. It really has some impressive results.

I cant get it to work!

It chugs for 1/10 of a second or so up to a few percent, then stops! And with one of the versions of the program, it just says Computation Error on every WU immediately...

Hmmmm.

What kind of GPU are you using?

Well I found out that if you are using cat 9.2 you have to rename some dll's for it to work.
I'm on x64 so the names are a little different here is what I did:
1) Go to C://Windows/system32/
2) Look for aticalcl64.dll, aticaldd64.dll, and aticalrt64.dll and copy them somewhere
3) Rename the dll's too amdcalcl64.dll, amdcaldd64.dll, and amdcalrt64.dll
4) Copy them back to C://Windows/system32/
5) Run BOINC and enjoy the crazy output.

note: 32bit windows don't have the 64 in the dll's name

P.S. I'm running my 4870's at 500/450 so I don't have crazy power consumption and so far the output is still crazy...
For comparision GPU's at 825/900 I was pulling about 750W CPU and GPU's at full load not so good for my temps of power bill
With the GPU's at 500/450 I'm pulling about 575W CPU and GPU's at full load and about 36-37 C temps more manageable for 24/7:D

I have to different makes of 4870 1GB's, and a 4870 512. I cant get them to fold on CAT 8.11, 8.12, 9.1, and i have yet to try 9.2...

Maybie I should go back to the stock BIOS on the cards?

I dunno I got my 4870's to work and they are HIS cards with a modded sapphire BIOS.
Did you try doing the dll thing i posted in post 10?

Are your 4870's overclocked? Have you tried them at stock?

I just got a HD4830 (MSI R4830-T2512) about an hour ago and it's running great. I am using the .19e level with Vista 64. I downloaded Catalyst 8.12 from the ATI website. Decided not to bother with the CD that came with the card.

I must say this thing is pretty amazing!

I assume you must of got it working since you created a how to thread. I am running Bonic level 6.4.7 any only have it on Vista 64. I only have one card that supports this.

It takes less power than I thought.

Q6600 with old cheaper video card - Idle 133 watts - CPU loaded 194 watts

Q6600 with HD4730 - Idle 136 watts - CPU loaded 204 watts - CPU + GPU loaded 236 watts.

yea, i finally got it. it took me like 3 hrs of searching and reading every post on thier forums, on exactily how to do it. and there was only like 1 post that said it needs to be copied to a hidden folder in the
By default this data directory can be found at:
Win2k/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\
Vista: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\

i was looking all over the program files\boinc and couldnt find a damn thing :)

i feel kinda like a idiot now after figuring it out. i can tell you one thing, i wont forget how to do it now :)

glennpat: are you using the cpu app as well or just the gpu?

I had a lot of trouble finding where to put the file also. I had some of the stuff set up before my card had gotten here. So I was set to go when the UPS guy came with the card.

I am only running the GPU. I am running GIMPS (non Boinc) on the CPU. It's really nice that running Milkyway on the GPU takes next to nothing for CPU time.

it looks like they are just about finished changing all the gpu wu over to a new server and spliting the cpu and gpu version, it sould be done sometime this week
