I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, I'm still reading through the 300 pages that have popped up since I was last here. :D

Could it be worth adding some kind of category for non modified cards? I ask because a lot of people (probably me included :D) don't have the skills or confidence to mod the cards, admittedly it's not too much of a worry if it fries, but it does mean you are out of the running.

Just another category suggestion, this is getting rather complicated I reckon. :p:

i have some good and some bad news.

good news: we can get more than 50 cards!

bad news: the cards are xabre200, not xabre400 cards! :(
they thougt the cards they bought were xabre400 but they are xabre200 cards, so they are not selling any xabre400 cards, only xabre200cards... i already got s suspicion about it yesterday, but didnt tell you since i wasnt sure and didnt want to upset anybody since i didnt know if it was true or not. this morning i talked to snogard and the card they have are:

xabre200
200mhz gpu
200mhz memory
64mb ddr

instead of 250/250 for the xabre400

the price is still the same, 30€ they said they cant lower the price since they bought the cards for just a few euros less themselves.

i am on my way to köln already and will get one of the xabre200 cards and see how it overclocks, what memory it has etc.

im pretty dissapointed, but 30€ is still a good price for a xabre200, on newegg the xabre200 costs 43$.

ive looked for other cards, and g4mx cards cost at least 10€ more. the only card i found wich costs less are ati 7000 7500 and xpert2000 cards (its a radeon 700 i think) wich are a LOT slower and pretty much dont oc at all or oc really bad.

i will tell you how those xabre 200 cards perform and how they oc!

GF4MX440 DDR 64MB. I see it has samsung ram:) It costs @ the shop 44,95 euro. When you buy 50 cards...they will give you the card for about 40euro.
Xabre200 has §§§§ty ram...it runs @ 175Mhz and the coreclock is @ 200. Doesn't sound too good...

nostra, it will be a lot of work to find another deal and talk to the shop for a rebate etc... it will delay the whole thing for a week i guess. and i would also pay 10 or even 20$ more to get a nice card, but the xabre200 doesnt look that bad at all.

unlike other cards the ecs xabre200 has 200mhz memory ,and its samsung memory ;)

xbitlabs could oc their card to almost 250/250 without any mods! thats not bad at all, and if you look at the benchmarks the xabre200 is only a little faster (10% or less) than the geforce 4 mx and even faster in some games! plus it has dx8.1...

xbitlabs: ECS AG200 deserves a separate word. We are accustomed to graphics cards based on chips from ATI and NVIDIA, while the graphics solutions from SiS are still a novelty. They made a mistake by saying that it was a Xabre400! Not you. So if you will say that you will not agree with a Xabre200, but will agree with 50 MX440's with the same rabat. I think it really won't be a problem for them. It is free advertising for them!

its a xabre400 with lower core and memory clocks.

well nostra, the g4mx costs more than the xabre cards they offer, they will probably give me a 6€ rebate on any other card if i buy 50 of them, maybe even more.

they have several g4mx cards from 45-60€. so with a rebate we might get the g4mx for 40-45€/card.

but i dont know if people are willing to pay extra money.

true: I had at one time recommended that the amd and intel divisions be restricted to aircooling cpus and vid cards etc...
this would level playing field even more. Pics to confirm no water/vapor during runs if questioned ie a super high oc etc...

I just think things like this easily get out of hand as far as trying to build in controls to control confounding factors. I mean we are all basically supposed to get the same cards from the same batch but then use whatever means to mod and oc the systems. It's Holst's and Sayaa's idea so I really have no control. But I would recommend that we all agree to buy a certain brand of card and order those cards etc... Buying from one supplier would decrease chances of us getting vastly different cards, but with people running so many different configurations of Athlon setups and P4 setups ie cpu speed, fsb, ram OS's it's kinda silly to say that an ECS xabre 200 bought from newegg.com has an advantage/disadvange to one bought in Europe. But again, those guys are making the rules so lets just make our recommendations and let the chips fall where they may. In the end it's all supposed to be a fun time and hopefully it will be. Too bad that supplier goofed on thier information and the cards are only 200's though :(

well I see both your points. I think his position is that even though card won't be from same batch it's the same card really, and we could just buy them here in US and save $20 on a card or about %60-80 off of the price :)

As long as it's the same brand I see no problem in buying the card locally.

Having to pay 50% more than the store next door would kind of contradict the main idea: a 'budget' overclock contest.

a few people had problems to pay 50$ and they contacted me and we found a way to get them the cards cheaper.
i told you already, i can take the heatsink off the card wich will make it lighter and reduce the shipping costs 5$...

I know I don't stand a chance of "getting on the podium" myself, but I don't give a damn, I didn't join this for the prizes, but for the sheer fun of it, taking a crappy little card and beating the hell out of it without having to worry too much about being out of pocket if it dies on me, this is the opinion most of the entrants share I would imagine.

And there's not much point complaining about getting a lower spec card, I don't see what the problem is, I for one wasn't planning on using it to replace my Raddy. :D

I do think we should perhaps all stick to the same driver though, again to level the playing field, and also because I wouldn't know a good Xabre driver from a drug addled Granfaloon! :p:

got some ideas on how to make it more of a vid card tweaking compeition rather than a system platform montor fsb winner :P

was thinking for AMD making max fsb 200 ie 400 whatever, run whatever ram timings, but I'm sure we are all at 2 2:2:11 or whatever, and cpu speed to a certain level, I think you or someone else mentioned 2.0ghz etc... maybe less for barton. That way we'd all be pretty much level as far as rest of platform concerned.

for INtel it gets a little trickier since no multiplier control. And there are performance differences even if set to same mhz b/c of fsb advantages/disadvantages with ram multipliers etc... I don't have a great answer here but to maybe limit cpu speed to 3ghz???? +/- 100mhz depending on where your system is fastest. or some speed we could agree on.

Also i think for the regular divsions we should have just regular aircooled gpu, mod the §§§§§ put a bigger hsf but no water or vapo on the gpu/ram. Is that fair.

The problem that we ave had is that we CANT find a budget card that is worth using in the competition that is sold in europe and the US.

If somebody can find such a card then I will be happy to listen, but nobody has yet.

So far saaya's deal is the only one we have, and personally I think its a pretty damned good one. Not perfect but still very good.

Ha - I know this guy too :D But it's not so easy - memory is in TSOP packages - so it not easy to unsolder it as a BGA

So I think we will have a fair play :)

jc,you bought stuff at snogard before? as faras i got it they have veryvery weird rma rules. you cant rma certain products like printers! if you buy directly in their shop you have to check everything if it looks alright, because if you want to replace it a few days later you willnot be able to return it or get your moneyback or get a replacement for certain products!

and if they let you return your broken product you dont get the fullmoney back but the priceyou paid minus a return fee of 15€ or something like that...

well keeping the rma and return rates low is how they keep their prices low...

I had a A7N8X-Deluxe that didn't do 200MHz FSB stable, it was 3 weeks old when I finally had the chance to go over there, and then they say they'll RMA it and I should come back in 3 weeks... That's NOT a refund afaik :rolleyes: Oh, the board was stock, CPU too and DDR too, so don't come sh*tting that I f*cked it up. It came f*cked up out of ASUS' factory.
I had 2 sticks of PC2700 that didn't worked in ANY nf² board, ripper took them with him to Snogard: they test it in a f*cking singlechannel board :eek: (while he said that it was giving sh*t in an nf²) and say nothing's wrong (what was correct, but DCDDR didn't work :rolleyes: ).
I took a keyboard with me from there in German QWERTZ; when I noticed I immediately explained it to them. They basically told me it'd cost 15€ to give me a coupon instead, basically that's telling me I can go f*ck myself :rolleyes: . I phoned Logitech BeNeLux and explained it, if I send it to them they'll send me another one in AZERTY for nothing, zero, nada, niente..
You won't see me again at that f*cking store, unless it's to set it on fire! :smileysex *writes idea down*
Oh, and I payed my 9800PRO VERY expensive, it was a lot cheaper at Snogard, but faith chose I had to spend extra... Faith was right, I already RMA'ed 5 vmodded 9800P's with blown mems and never had any troubles with it, the shop knows, but that's service I guess.
They're a long way from that imo and they could very well open a shop in Aachen and learn a bit from P-C-C, because if anything breaks this time and I go back and they f*ck me up the *ss again there with that f*cking RMA-bull§§§§, they can take the store clerck to the hospital cuz I'll shove my RMA up his *ss, even if it's an ASUS motherboard! :mad:

vlad, the card has a bios chip just like a mainboard, so you can take it out of the card.just arrivesd at home... FINALLY :P

tomorrow i will have access to a high quality digi cam and ill post some pics of the cards. there are no voltage regulator chips at all, only 2 large and one small mosfet.

vlad, the ecs xabre200 has samsung memory and the ecs xabre 400 has etrontech memory afaik, dont know if there are diferent versions of the ecs cards with other memory.

so the differences in the bios are probably as you said memory timings and clockspeeds.

the gpu is stepping a1 wich doesnt mean anything since there never was an a2 :P but its manufactured in week 24 of 2002 (geez over a year old :D) wich is actually one of the latest gpus they made so it should ok good.

the memory is samsung 5ns:

oh and one moere thing i noticed, the first cards only had double sided tape to hold the heatsink in place :rolleyes: this one had a perfect amount of white silicon termal grease, so this also indicates its a later version of the card and not one of the early cards.

the gpu is pretty flat, not perfect but a lot better than most nvidia cards.

there are 2 big mosfets (as big as from a mobo) labeled:

ok, heres the deal. i finally solved all this locked unlocked mystery.

the gpu clockspeed is locked on most drivers, you can set it to 5ghz but it wont change anything, memory overclocking however does work.

there are so called "performence" drivers wich havean extra tab in the driver window to UNLOCK the clockgenerator on the card, to be able to oc the card. and it works! :D

the funny thing is that the drivers that came with the card give me a LOT higher scores in 2k1 and look better than the latest "performence" driver from sis!!!!

the drivers that came with the card have pretty much the same texture quality than my radeon9700... probably a little worse, but i didnt really notice that something looks unsharp or blurry, and the colours look just fine. i had expected it to look a lot worse.

the performence drivers however are really weird. dispite the possibility to unlock the gpu clockspeed they are pure crap lol. it says they are optimized for new games like splinter cell, black hawk down and command and conquer generals i think.

well you can set the texture quality to quality, normal and performence. the performence drivers set to quality show the same or rather a worse image quality than the drivers i got with the card when its set to performence! rofl :D

im really really tired so ill check again, but the performence drivers score less and look worse! really wicked...

ok with my 1700+@10x200(low clocks to keep it silent) scores 7200 in 2k1 with the drivers i got with the card, card clocks 200/200, not bad for the low clocks eh?

with the performence drivers and everything set to performence i get around 5K!!!!! maybe those drivers are beta or something, no idear... or they are purely optimized for the new games?

well the bios doesnt seem to be a problem it seems, its the drivers... we need to find a way to get the gpu unlocked in the good performing drivers somehow. i will check all the driver files tomorrow...

the highest i could overclock the card to was ~240 gpu 220 memory. im really dissapointed by the memory, the xbitlabs people could get theirs to 240, maybe a new bios with diferent drivers will help? no idear...

above 220 i got a few very small artifacts, so maybe the xbitlabs people ignored the artifacts and benched at 240 with some heavy artifacts... ill try some more settings tomorrow.

7200 is not bad for 200/200 card clocks, if i could oc the card with the good driver i would get at least 8K, maybe 8500 with the same cpu and fsb speed.

one more thing, i said the card would be running cool ( iread that in some reviews) wich is not true. its getting really warm! and the mosfets are HOT!

i am running my rails pretty high, 14v 5.7v and 3.7v so maybe thats why the gpu and the mosfets run so hot... who knows.

no , powerstrip says its running 200/200. and the performence is like 200/200 so....

man those xabre drivers are funny... by looking at the files and changing some settings i get the impression only 1 or 2 persons have ever been working on them :rotf:

they always integrated some stuff that wasnt ready to be activated yet in the drivers. then in the next or after 2 driver releases there are the missing files and the extra settings are available and work.
but there are extra settings that are kindof integrated intomthe drivers since the first driver release but even in the latest drivers they can only be activated if you manipulate some files... even the latest driver is more like a beta and not a finished driver :D

whoohoooo! :) get the 3.11.53 drivers to unlock the gpu clocks, it doesnt have the best performence but it lets you overclock.

im still working on the xabre drivers... the best drivers were supposed to be the 3.09 but all links to them are down... :(

the 3.08 are good but they dont allow ocing and i cant get it to work...

i worked on a hacked 3.08 on sunday but i cant get it to work right... i managed to enable ocing but it sets the clockspeeds back to default after 30sec in 3d :/

400mhz extra cpu power only give you 100points extra in 2k1!

+70mhz gpu oc on memory, gpu, or both result in 1000 extra points in 2k1 ;)

it seems you dont need a credit card to withdraw and send money, you just have to wait for 14days if you sign up with a bank account and you get a 2000€ limit :)

since the cpu performence doesnt really have an impact on the performence of the cards there will probably only be a low amd low P4 and xtreme categories.

wow theese xabrecards are really nice! im playing c&c generals zero hour with full details, particles and texture quality set to the max, and i get 12fps average at 1024x768!

not bad at all! i get around 10fps average at 1600x1200 with the same settings, but there are really weird bugs at that high resolution. at 1024x768 there are a few bugs... but nothing big, just some weird lines here and there from time to time...

but when i switch to 1600x1200 it looks like this:

i will get the cards sometimes during next week, then it will take 3-7days shipping depending on where you live. everybody should have their card in 2 weeks or less :)

the reason why it takes so long is because paypal needs 5-7 days to send the money from my paypal to my bank account... :( they might even need 8 or 9 days if theres some trouble with my bank :(

i get 15fps average at 1024x768 everything maxed now oced to 250/230 :) almost finished zero hour... maaan this is boring, the tutorial is the worst ive ever played... u get tons of resources and the enemies attack you with like 2 tanks and 5 soldiers :rolleyes:

well the management and the boss at snogard were not there today when i called them. i only know the boss and 2 people from the management so i couldnt really clear anything up since no important person that could make decisions was there to reply to my questions...

the management dude and dudette will be there on monday and im supposed to call em to ask what to do next. in the owrst case they will ask me to pay right then or on tuesday wich would mean i have to ask this rich woman i know to pay the 1300€ for me with her credit card... if not then i will go to köln on saturday and pay them persoanlly and pick up the cards together with oliver (ichwillspeed) who lives in köln.

so i was supposed to pay snogard today, but i ddont have the paypal money on my account yet and couldnt talk to them about when to pay... will know more on monday.

damn will be a busy day, i will be in school from 7:30am till 4:30pm so i will have to make all kind of phone calls from school in the breaks between the lessons :\

I had a good feeling about the Xabre cards when they came out, i can't wait to see the potential of these cards. I think their going to be a pleasant surprise. Would you say "visually" their pretty close to a 9800? Not gaming, speed, or resolution, but 2D, some 3D quality?
