I am thinking of taking the plunge into the entry level core i7. I have seen some games first hand played with these systems and eventhough I have a darn good system, they are better. I was looking at picking up the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R, core i7 920, and 3x2gb DDR3 1600MHz ram. Is this board decent for entry level overclocking?

Are you sure I7 is better on games ? lookign at ya current rig I really doubt you will get much benefit mate, better wait for the new DO revision and upgrade then

Unfortunately yes. My friend was playing the same games as me and his performance was better. The big difference though is that I encode audio/video and I tried that and the core i7 is much better and that then what I have now.

Wow...if I had your rig, I'd wait for 32nm. You've got just about a perfect S775 rig.

Then go for it !! But I would go for the UD5 !

Any ideas when the 32nm cpu's will be released?

Probably in about 8-10 months, from what I've read. Gulftown is the high-end desktop 6-core chip.

Still, if you don't want to wait that long, I'd at least wait for the new D0 stepping of Nehalem, which is about a month away if what I've seen is correct. (some people have said sooner)

You could probably sell your board, RAM and CPU and not pay too much to get i7.
