So this is only an assumption.

I had a 4870 in the top PCIe slot. A wireless NIC in the PCI slot, and an X-Fi in the bottom PCI-e slot.

So I decide to use some canned air and blow the PC out. I turn it on and I am gaming for about 45min. Then I get 'the' smell. I look down at the PC, the side cover is still off, and I see an orange glow. I quickly turn off the PSU.

Upon inspection I find the front pins of the PCI-e slot, before the gap, is completely burned. The X-Fi is completely burned.

At first I thought I had a water leak, but there is not way for water to makes its way there without first hitting something else. I even checked for leaks everywhere and nothing.

I did find a large piece of fuzz sitting down the PCI-e slot. The only thing I can think is that another piece landed on the card/slot.

:banana::banana::banana: happens, I just figure I got less on my tax return. The only thing that I am really upset about is I couldnt find another R2E local and Newegg was giving me grief about shipping. So I got an X58-UD5 instead. It seems to be a good MoBo, but just not the R2E. :(

Damn, that sucks..sorry to hear about the dead board. ;(

Did you try just taking out the soundcard and running it again? Is it completely dead? I hope nothing else got fried.

At least the Gigabyte boards this time around are pretty good clockers and mostly, people have been quite happy with them. did you get the Extreme version? Even though the R2E is a great board, I think you will find that just about the same scores can be had on one of many other boards out there....I mean Core i7 OCing in itself isn't nearly as hard as it was with Core 2 CPUs.

It almost burnt a whole through the MoBo. CPU and RAM are OK, just lost the MoBo and X-Fi.

My CPU clocks the same. I just like the look of the R2E and all the leads and everything about it.

Oh well.
