Well if you seen my other post I was considering jumping on the I7 bandwagon.

So, I have these 2 mobo's in my eye.

EVGA X58 and the ASUS R2E.

Please provide me with some sound input. I plan on running 2 GTX285's.

Which should I go with an why?

Thanks again.

I've got an evga x58 and i love it to death. it got my 920 to 4ghz on air pretty easily and has given me zero problems. It has a lifetime warranty and EVGA has been pretty good about the bios updates fixing any issues people have had. They also are great with rma's and support making it quite easy unlike asus who I've always had problems with rma's and support. I don't really believe any certain board at this point can overclock that much better than others unless one is really a piece of crap, especially between these two boards.

I'm a big fan of EVGA and there support is 2nd to none. I have used both ASUS and EVGA boards in the past. Both companies have great boards and both have their issues as well. Just looking for some feedback before I fork the $$$ down.

Thanks

R2E seems a bit excessive, most any of the 'good' boards are capable of 4Ghz with a good CPU and memory.

Evga, I have the R2E and it isn't all that great. Its a good board, but I think the evga is better.

Can you state why the EVGA is better ? Would love to know the hard facts.. I think RE II's harder to setup, but most X58 boards perform alike in the hands of us average users...

There's a massive X58 round up soon to be published on madshrimps website.. hold on to ya money a few more days

Thanks for the info.

So to throw the price factor out of the way what would you choose. I can get an BNIB R2E for 3 bills. (don't ask)

Why does nobody ever mention DFI in these threads? I've been using their stuff for years and they've been great boards.

I used be a big fan of DFI. I dumped them after my last 939 rig. Support went down hill with them and also DFI Street (RIP).

Why do you say the eVGA is harder to setup?

After using a 680i board from dfi i would never willingly give them another dime. they're support process was about as sketchy as it could get, I would send a board out pay 45 dollars because they did not want to honor my warranty then get the board back and it would still be broken.

I was going to say the same for the Gigabyte.

The proof is in the Gigabyte X58 thread....tons of win.

Gigabyte X58 is probably your best bet right now. Working great for me and many others, check out the UD5/Extreme thread.

Why do you say the eVGA is harder to setup?

I wanted to say that the RE II is harder to setup, as the bios is pretty complex with an abundance of subpages... (corrected my phrases so it's clearer to understand now )

I have a R2E and it's an all-round excellent motherboard. I would think (and was about to buy it) the EVGA is an excellent performer and great quality motherboard, but just decided for this and i don't regret it. Putting my i7 920 to 4.0Ghz was a breeze (you have to be lucky, some won't even go there) and after some tweaking i managed to get a nice and stable 4200 out of it.

I think you will be well served with either of them, i can only speak for the R2E which looks awesome and performs on pair.
