I'm not ready for i7 yet but I'm getting a gpu upgrade. I want a new micro board that I can Oc to 4ghz. My current board can't get past 425x8.5 fbs. I don't want the dfi jr it's pci ex 8x. Any suggestions thanks chris!

get DFI JR. it only runs 8x in crossfire, but for just 1 card, it's the full 16x i think. if you still don't want this one, then the older P5E-VM HDMI is actually a better overclocker than the newer high end mATX that you have. there just aren't that many choices when it comes to high overclocks on mATX

I don't think even a GTX295 can saturate a PCI-E 2.0 8x...?

then what is the poimt of 16x. I mean if I apy $500 for a gtx295 or a 4870x2 (still undecided) then a want a 16x board.

Yes WhiteFireDragon I heard that about the P5E-VM. Which I might try out I will just have to pick up a sound card then because the VM doesn't have a optical output. I just can't believe that asus messed up this board so bad with a revision of the same board. I mean same chipset same layout almost exactly the same boards. so what's the difference?

DFI LP JR P45-T2RS

4GHz easy with a Core2Duo with this board :)

Fixed

I have both the P5E-VM HDMI and the DFI LP JR P45-T2RS. The DFI LP JR P45-T2RS is collecting dust on in my computer room.

P5E-VM HDMI is much easier to overclock quads with.

You say it's much easier to ovcleck with but in you sig your only @ 450x8. I want to be at 470x 8.5 to give 4ghz. is the possible? did you hit a wall at 3.6ghz

I guarantee you that if your CPU is capable of doing 4.0 Ghz, the P5E-VM HDMI is not going to be your limiting factor.........how much voltage and how much cooling you're willing to put into it is (both your CPU and Northbridge) EDIT: well I guess memory too. This board is capable of 500 Mhz, people over on [H]ardForum have done it. You should head over there for more discussion on this board:

The only drawback to the P5E is that it doesn't allow for higher than ~42-43 TRFC memory timings, which is limiting my GSkill sticks..........I'm also running 4 DIMMS. I haven't updated my sig in awhile, I'm running a Xeon 3360. She'll do 3.8Ghz Prime stable but not LinX stable.

Awe I really don't want to mess with mem. clocks! Maybee I will just be happy with 3.69ghz and add my new gpu and a feser 480mm. In a lian li htpc case! this is going to be insane! lol! thanks guys
